RAF Centre Aviation Medicine (CAM) trial of the RAF Typhoon Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for front line pilots in the QinetiQ Centrifuge. The Eurofighter Typhoon is a high-G aircraft that is limited by the pilot to +.9/-3G for operational service. The pilot limitation is to ensure the pilot does not G-lock. During training we found that I had a high natural 7G tolerance whilst testing to 9G. Hence the nickname, G-monster! This video shows the early stages of testing used to identify my limits and suitability for the test programme. Following which I completed many centrifuge sessions testing the Eurofighter PPE for release to frontline service for RAF fighter pilots. Including G-trousers, Jacket, inflatable socks and forced oxygen through the mask. The final Typhoon PPE enables most pilots to pull 9G in combat profiles (max/min G) without the need to conduct the anti-G strain manoeuvre or tense. Enabling them to focus on the task and not personal survival.
