US: Tell The Truth: Activists Disrupt AI Conference With Greenwashing Protest.

New York, United States - September 22, 2026 Activists disrupted an AI-focused conference at the Javits Center, unfurling large banners and challenging speakers over what they described as “greenwashing” surrounding artificial intelligence. Multiple Extinction Rebellion NYC activists interrupted the keynote presentation “Unlocking the Energy Grid: An AI Solution to an AI Problem,” which featured leaders from Salesforce, Emerald AI, Crusoe and Fortune Magazine. Four activists attending the presentation unfurled painted banners and called out what they described as false solutions to the climate crisis. Javits Center security removed activists from the conference, while some left through the main entrance. Another activist was arrested after chalk-spraying “Tell The Truth” to draw attention to the group’s claims about AI and the environment. During the action, the activist called for Mayor Mamdani’s Office of Mass Engagement to hold a civic assembly on the city’s climate transition, including AI’s impact. Extinction Rebellion NYC said it was challenging the idea that AI can form the foundation of a sustainable “resilience economy,” while raising concerns about data centers, energy use and the environmental and economic effects of AI. One activist, Topher Dean, said the group was challenging the idea that expanding AI and data centers would solve the climate crisis.
