The rally took place on the one-year anniversary of President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to Washington. Demonstrators chanted slogans and held signs reading “Troops Out of DC,” “Stop Trump’s Takeover of the City” and “Free D.C.,” while speakers addressed the crowd. Protesters also called for protections for immigrants and opposed plans to establish a new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) headquarters in the city.
