The aerial fire retardant coats vegetation and wildland fuels ahead of an advancing wildfire, slowing its spread and reducing flame intensity. The effort gives ground crews time and safer conditions to construct physical containment lines. After the drop, the air tankers returned to the Cedar City air tanker base to support additional wildfire suppression efforts regionally.
