The races were held on Wednesday, June 24, in Foshan, Guangdong Province, as part of Dragon Boat Festival celebrations. Teams competed along the narrow and winding Diejiao River, where long boats maneuvered through a series of tight bends that set the event apart from other dragon boat competitions in the country. The challenge required multiple helmsmen to coordinate steering and sliding techniques as the vessels navigated sharp S-, L- and C-shaped turns at high speed. The boats, measuring about 25 meters in length, tested the crews’ control and technical skill throughout the course. The competition has earned a reputation among spectators and participants for its combination of speed, precision and demanding river navigation.
