The race, held in the fishing village of Ngor, brought together fishermen from Dakar's coastal neighborhoods, including Yoff, Ouakam and Soumbedioum. Teams of 15 fishermen rowed brightly painted wooden boats known as pirogues after launching from Ngor Beach. Hundreds of spectators filled the beach, while others watched from nearby balconies and terraces, cheering as the boats raced along an approximately 2.5-nautical-mile route. The race, organized by Ngor Municipality, was won by fishermen from Ouakam. Colorful fishing boats are an integral part of Senegal's coastal culture, serving both as a source of livelihood and as symbols of cultural heritage.
