Madrid, Spain - October 07, 2026 Maricarmen Abascal dies at the Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid at the age of 87. She was the woman who was evicted on September 23. Maricarmen's eviction triggered protests and an encampment in Puerta del Sol, in front of the headquarters of the Presidency of the Community of Madrid. Upon learning of her death, the demonstrators paid tribute with candles around the camp and with demonstrations at the Congress of Deputies.
