New field hospital opens in north of Gaza, where health system collapsed due to Israeli attacks.

.GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - AUG. 10, 2026: The Palestinian Red Crescent has opened the North Field Hospital with 120 bed capacity in the northern Gaza Strip— where Israel has been imposing a blockade for a long time and has destroyed a large portion of the healthcare infrastructure in its attacks—to facilitate access to healthcare services for patients and the injured. The hospital, which opened in the north of Gaza City, has become a new healthcare center for the local population in the middle of a increasingly deepening healthcare crisis caused by a large portion of hospitals in the region being destroyed or going out of service in the Israeli attacks. The hospital, which opened in the north of Gaza—where shortages of medicine and medical supplies continue due to Israel’s attacks and blockade—is particularly important for alleviating the difficulties involved in delivering emergency patients to health centers located at a long distance. Since the start of the genocidal war, Israel has deliberately targeted hospitals, health facilities and medical staff in Gaza, causing the collapse of the health system, according to repeated statements by the Health Ministry. The latest attacks took place in early August, when the Israeli army destroyed two warehouses containing vital medicines and medical consumables and severely damaged two others in strikes on storage facilities belonging to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), only 44% of health service points that existed before October 2023 were functioning by mid-July 2026. The World Health Organization (WHO) has previously said none of Gaza’s hospitals are operating at full capacity and that more than half of essential medicines have run out of stocks. Since Israel’s genocide in Gaza began on Oct. 8, 2023, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 injured, while around 90% of the enclave’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed.
