Indonesia: Super Garuda Shield 2026 exercise begins in Indonesia.

.BANDUNG, INDONESIA - AUG. 31, 2026: Super Garuda Shield (SGS) 2026 joint military exercise, involving 4,743 personnel from 21 countries, began in Indonesia. The exercise, which will be held from from Aug. 31 to Sept. 11, opened at the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Command and Staff College in Bandung. TNI Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto and US 4th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Patrick J. Ellis attended the opening ceremony. The exercise involves land, naval and air forces from partner countries, including the United States, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, South Korea and Singapore. Super Garuda Shield 2026 is being held in Bandung and Jakarta, as well as Lampung, Baturaja in South Sumatra and North Kalimantan. The exercise covers joint operations, cyber warfare, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, as well as combat operations and medical evacuation. Participants are also scheduled to carry out humanitarian activities, including renovating schools, improving roads, providing medical treatment to 500 people, performing mass circumcisions for 50 children and distributing 1,000 food packages to local communities. Super Garuda Shield 2026 aims to strengthen defense cooperation between the TNI, the US and partner countries in the Indo-Pacific region, increase interoperability and readiness, and develop joint operational capabilities.
