Results published by Icelandic public broadcaster RUV showed 52.8 percent of voters opposed resuming negotiations, with voter turnout reaching 82.5 percent — the highest in any Icelandic election since April 2009. Iceland had applied for EU membership in 2009, but accession talks were suspended in 2013 following the election of a Eurosceptic government.
