The country’s meteorological service, Météo-France, increased the alert status in eight cities because temperatures are tracking well above seasonal norms. During the daytime, temperatures are expected to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius. French Government Spokesperson Maud Bregeon appeared on the French TF1 channel and reported that two people had lost their lives during sports competitions held in the heat. Additionally, Bregeon stated that five individuals had drowned while attempting to cool off in the water. Appearing on the RMC channel, French Minister of Sports and Youth Marina Ferrari announced that some sports competitions may face cancellation depending on the weather conditions in the coming days.
