China: 3rd Chinese medical expert team leaves for DR Congo for Ebola response.

The third group of Chinese medical experts departed from Beijing in the early hours Saturday for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to support local Ebola control efforts. The Chinese government decided to dispatch high-level medical expert teams after the World Health Organization determined on May 17 that the Ebola outbreak in the DRC constituted a "public health emergency of international concern." The second Chinese medical team was dispatched on July 3, and the first on June 2. As planned, the experts -- with rich experience in epidemic control -- will work with the Chinese medical team currently in the DRC and strengthen cooperation with local medical and epidemic control agencies to help contain the Ebola outbreak. The expert team will also continue providing prevention and treatment training for local healthcare facilities, the Chinese medical team, the Chinese embassy, Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese citizens. According to the latest figures released Friday by the country's public health authorities, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the DRC had risen to 3,532, with 1,556 confirmed deaths.
