The event, which celebrates the May 9, 1950, declaration that led to the modern EU, drew large crowds to the European Council, the European Parliament, and the European Commission. The Berlaymont Building, which serves as the Commission’s headquarters, was a centerpiece of the festivities. European Commission Vice President Teresa Ribera opened the day’s activities with a welcome speech and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to speak directly with EU staff and exchange views with Ribera at the Commission building. At the European Parliament, political groups used stands and exhibitions to introduce themselves to the public. The event also featured photography areas, music, and games for families, while adults were able to consult with staff about potential careers within the European Union.
