US revokes visas of Mexican band following concert featuring cartel imagery

They filled concert halls across Mexico and even here in the U.S

But now Los Aligres de Alanco are banned from entering the country after a performance, some say, crossed the line

During a weekend show in Guadalajara, the band projected the face of cartel boss El Mincho, leader of the Holisco New Generation, onto the screen, met with applause from the audience

The performance prompted the U.S. Department to revoke the band. band's work and tourist visas. Back in February, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced eight

cartels in transnational organizations were being labeled as foreign terrorist organizations, one of which included the Holisco New Generation Cartel. And Tuesday, just days following the

band's concert, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau posted, in the Trump administration

concerned the band may be promoting cartel violence through their performance visuals. Several Mexican

states have already banned live performances of narcocoriros, a genre that tells the stories of

organized crime figures, which Los Aligres del Barranco is known for. Mexico's president

Wadia Shinebaum has previously opposed outright bands of the genre, encouraging promotion of regional music with more positive messages

But following this incident, she has called for a full investigation. The group had multiple U.S. dates lined up, including Friday in Tulsa and Sunday in Texas, with shows stretching into August

But with their visas revoked, those performances are now in limbo, even as tickets remain listed on some platforms
