Welcome back for a new term to Christina Brady from Black Tower Financial Management
0:04
How are you? I'm fine. How are you? Excellent. Thank you. Not bad at all. Did you have a good summer
0:11
Yes. Yeah, very busy. But yeah, it was good, apart from the humidity
0:15
Yeah, well, that's still with us, isn't it? Can't get rid of that? It's not too bad at the moment
0:21
It could be worse, couldn't it? You know, we could be heading in. We could have been in England and had no summer at all
0:27
That's it. Until now. Yeah, until now. That's right, yeah. Speaking of which, the news out of Britain today on the economy says that it shrunk more than expected
0:37
Rain and strikes, apparently responsible for that. So you're right, we're better off here, I guess
0:42
How has that affected the markets generally down just a little bit today on that news
0:47
There's nothing. It's 7-5, 75, 75, 7-5, 7-5. Not much is going on really with the markets. It has been like that for a while now
0:59
you know even if baby comes out to the US which it has today nothing seems to affect it
1:06
so at the moment we sort of in this cycle it goes just above 7 just below 7 just above just below that the footsie 100 So we going anywhere Yeah Europe and Europe also doesn seem to have moved around too much at all
1:21
You get these sort of sharp drops and sharp rises every other day
1:24
but they stay pretty much the same. Yeah, even if you look at the KAC and the Dax and everything, it's roughly the same
1:31
which from a sort of investment point of view, you know, is okay, but it's not good
1:37
because volatility is where you make money and you don't want it too volatile
1:42
Don't get me wrong. But if there's no volatility, it does make it difficult
1:47
Although this year has been better than last year, I must admit, last year was dire
1:51
You mentioned the US. So inflation in August rose for the first time since June 2022, 3.7% the rise
2:01
It's quite a sharp increase, but energy prices again pushing that up
2:05
And we're going to see a big energy price issue this winter, again, perhaps not as bad as last year again
2:10
I think the problem is the US is you had the change of government. And the government that came in the Biden government decided to stop all exploration, you know, try and make it more green
2:20
And what it meant is if you have a shortage in supplier and a high demand the prices are going to go up And it has really really affected the US economy And the Democrats are too stubborn to admit they got it wrong So they carrying on with their policy So it is meaning that it looks like we will have more rate rises in the UK
2:38
However, wages in the US are now outpacing inflation because people have got very, very fed up with what's going on
2:45
And I think we are going to have problems with the US until we have the elections and hopefully a change of government to a Republican
2:51
and the US is starting formal impeachment proceedings against Biden for a culture of corruption
2:59
So we've had both the protagonists maybe going through court proceedings as we head towards an election
3:06
The case against Biden is a lot more solid than the case against anyone else
3:10
You've got corrupt business dealings. You've got alleged bribery. You've got everything on tape
3:16
You've got everything on video. It's a lot more severe than anything else they could have trumped up
3:20
And of course, that is assuming. isn't it, that we are assuming that, you know, the man who promised to make America great again would be making a return. He may well not still
3:31
He may not but it looks like he will He looks like America all for him I think he should have been allowed to have a second term People may have disliked him I think people disliked him because for once we had someone was honest He had faults He didn try to hide them Whereas most politicians in America I saying most not all of them are sleazy
3:50
They hide what they've done. If you look at most politicians, especially in the Senate
3:55
and above, they are multi, multi-millionaires. If you look back about their salary
4:01
and how much they've earned, there is no way them and their family could be that rich
4:06
So it's huge corruption in the US. The trouble with Trump is the press went all out to get him
4:12
They made him out to be this, that and the other, which maybe he is, but he knew how to run a business
4:17
And a country is a business and the economy is a business. And he did very well
4:22
There was no wars when he was in power. First time ever for a US president
4:27
We've seen what happens when he's gone out of power. So we'll have to wait and see what happens in the US
4:33
The funny thing is, even if he does get put in jail, in theory, he could still be voted in as
4:38
president, they could get him out of jail and then he could pardon himself. I'm mad is that. So we'll see what happens there. Well, you know, if you look at Biden
4:47
it's obvious there's trouble in his family. It's obvious his son, you know, is not whiter than
4:52
white. And yet they tried to get him off with the charges dropped, you know, a plea deal
4:57
which didn't cover everything, gave him an immunity
