A Union Pacific train derailed in northern Texas Tuesday afternoon and it's being treated as a
0:05
hazmat situation according to authorities. Small grass fires have also been sparked by the
0:10
derailment. Fire crews are actively working to contain them and no nearby structures are currently
0:15
at risk. Just after two o'clock local time, emergency crews responded to a major train
0:23
derailment about two miles east of Gordon, Texas. The town lies about 90 minutes west of Dallas
0:29
Fort Worth. A representative with Union Pacific tells Straight Arrow News that around 35 rail
0:34
cars went off the tracks. Multiple response teams, including hazmat crews from Union Pacific
0:40
are now on the scene assessing the situation. The train was possibly carrying hazardous materials
0:46
However, at this time, there are no reports of hazardous material leaks, the Palo Pinto County
0:51
Emergency Service District 1 said in a Facebook post. No injuries have been reported and all
0:57
personnel have been accounted for. Palo Pinto County Emergency Services is coordinating with
1:02
Union Pacific and other agencies to keep residents and first responders safe. People living close to
1:09
the derailment site are being asked to avoid the area. It's unclear what kind of hazardous material
1:14
the train may have been carrying. For Straight Arrow News, I'm Lauren Keenan. For more on this
