Following the first family of football, can Texas QB Arch Manning deliver?

Perhaps the most hyped college player in 30 years is about to take over the reins for a team favored to win the national championship

That's a little bit of pressure, right? Well, how about we add the most famous last name in football to the mix

Everyone is wondering if Texas quarterback Arch Manning can live up to all the hype

after waiting patiently behind starter Quinn Ewers for two seasons the 21 year old nephew of

former NFL superstar quarterbacks Peyton and Eli says he's ready when asked how he's grown as a

leader while watching from the sidelines Arch responded in true Manning fashion I think as much

as it it didn't always it wasn't always easy those two years I kind of feel like I got a lot

of respect from the team and now being more of a vocal leader I have they know that it's coming

from a place of love and when I get on someone they know I'm not just being a turd. Manning

threw nine touchdowns in 10 games last year and rushed for four more scores. He started against

Louisiana Monroe and Mississippi State after Ewers was injured. Not exactly a murderer's row

Still he's got the full confidence of his head coach Steve Sarkisian to star in the most

scrutinized conference in college football. When you're a great teammate and you're working hard

but you haven't been that front line guy yet, is how do you take on that authoritative state when you haven yet done it right And what we had to explain to him was you earned it You know he earned it The record college and pro careers of uncles Peyton and Eli

are the stuff of legend. Arch, however, calls his grandfather Archie, the former New Orleans Saints quarterback, a best friend and mentor

He credits his father Cooper, a former wide receiver at Ole Miss

with teaching him the game. And mom gets a shout-out, too. My dad was pretty fast and my mom was fast too, I think

She's competitive, so I try to mix it up a little bit when I can

The physical tools are there, but some believe he's getting too much attention

ESPN yst Jordan Rodgers remarked this week that the hype train is out of control

As Manning made the rounds during SEC Media Day with over 1,200 reporters in attendance

he shrugged off all the noise, wanting instead to focus on winning games

You know, I'm not really in the business of this going to sound mean, but like caring what other people think

But, you know, I'm grateful that y'all think that, but I've only played, what, two games, so I got a lot to prove

And we may learn right away if Arch Manning is ready. Texas plays their opening game August 30th in Columbus, Ohio, against the defending national champion Buckeyes
