'Fake people born in the future' received unemployment benefits: DOGE

The Department of Government Efficiency is announcing its latest discovery

this time in unemployment claims paid out by the federal government since 2020

Doge says it's identified thousands of payments made to fake people who

according to their recorded birth dates, do not exist. Doge says it's conducted an initial survey of claims data and found more than 24,000 people

over 115 years old who claimed $59 million in benefits. 28,000 people between one and five

years old claimed $254 million in benefits. And nearly 10,000 people with birthdates over 15 years

in the future claimed $69 million in benefits. And according to Doge, in one case, someone with

birthday in 2154 claimed $41,000. In response to the findings, Elon Musk, who oversees Doge

wrote on X, your tax dollars were going to pay fraudulent unemployment claims for fake people

born in the future This is so crazy that I had to read it several times before it sank in The oldest living American is 114 years old so it is safe to say that anyone 115 or older

is collecting unemployment due to being dead. There was no sanity check for impossibly young

or impossibly old people for unemployment insurance. When researching this story, I found very little news coverage over what Doge says it's discovered

News outlets that are covering the story are right-leaning, like Fox News, The New York Post, and Breitbart

Left-leaning news outlets like The New York Times, The Associated Press, and major networks such as NBC, CBS, and ABC

have no write-ups on their websites about Doge's latest discovery, at least as of this recording, about 15 hours after Doge's announcement

We consider this type of story a media miss. That's when news media, with a left or right lean, miss the story

If a news story is heavily covered by one political side and not the other

it could be a form of media bias, by omission or oversaturation

With this story being Doge it has political value to the right as conservatives are largely touting Doge efforts to cut government waste

while the political left has largely been critical over Doge's access to sensitive government files

and must-level of involvement. This could explain why a story about a Doge discovery is being covered by right-leaning media

and missed by the left. Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson made brief mention of Doge's work during a Thursday press conference

We have a lot of fraud, waste and abuse in Medicaid. Just one tiny example

The estimate is $51 billion a year and Medicaid is lost to fraud. That's unconscionable

We now have with the Doge efforts and with new algorithms and with new oversight responsibilities and opportunities, we have ability to carve that out

And during a Doge hearing this week, Democrats voiced their opposition. We have been deeply concerned that the entire Doge effort has been a front to help support

billionaires who are trying to privatize public services. And just this week, we have seen

as Elon Musk is on his exit out of the federal government he has secured billions of dollars in new contracts across the federal government Doge announced a similar find in Social Security benefits in February suggesting tens of millions of dead people were still receiving checks

The Social Security Administration answered to Doge, saying their software system doesn't

properly annotate death information, saying 19 million people born in 1920 or earlier

were not marked as deceased. And it automatically stops payments to people older than 115 years old

The claims about unemployment money going to fake people, as of this recording

has not received a formal response from the relevant agencies. So it remains unclear whether any of the cases involve data input errors
