Border crossings hit record lows, zero migrants released into US in June: CBP

President Trump's border policies are serving as a deterrent at the U.S. southern border

as illegal crossings have hit another record low. In June, Border Patrol encountered the lowest

number of migrants along the southwestern border since the 1960s when the agency started tracking

the data. According to Border Patrol data released by the Department of Homeland Security

agents apprehended just over 6,000 migrants between southern border ports of entry last month

That's down from more than 83,000 in June of 2024. June's numbers also beat out the record low set a

few months back in March when there were over 7,000 illegal border crossing arrests. That was

down from over 137,000 the year before. According to the new data, on June 28th

Border Patrol hit a single-day record low, with 137 migrants encountered across the southern border

And for the entire month, CBP says they didn't release a single apprehended migrant into the U.S

I don't know, but they say zero. Immigration was one of the top issues Trump campaigned on leading up to the 2024 election

And it's also been a major focus of his administration's early policy changes

He ended what was called the CBP One app, a phone app that helped migrants apply for asylum and enter the country

ICE and deportation operations have ramped up. And on day one, Trump issued 10 executive orders on immigration, one paused refugee programs, and asylum claims for those crossing into the U.S

Tighter asylum restrictions have historically been linked to lower border activity. But a judge on Wednesday just blocked one of Trump's day one policies

The judge ruled the administration overstepped its authority with the blanket pause on asylum

The Trump administration is expected to appeal. But it's unclear as of now if this recent ruling will have an impact on the number of people encountered at the border
