Assault on Ohio congressman is latest incident of US political violence

An incident targeting a congressman from Ohio underscores the heightened threat of violence

against public officials across the nation. Republican Congressman Max Miller says he was run off the road Thursday by a man who threatened

to kill him and his family. The man also reportedly showed a Palestinian flag on his cell phone

and yelled death to Israel. Miller is Jewish and a strong supporter of Israel and Congress

He described the incident in a video he posted on X. This morning, as I was driving to work, some unhinged, deranged man decided to lay on his horn and run me off the road when he couldn't get my attention to show me a Palestinian flag

Not to mention death to Israel, death to me that he wanted to kill me and my family

Thank God my daughter was not in my vehicle or anybody else at the time

Police arrested a 36-year-old Ohio man, Farras Hamden, who is charged with aggravated menacing and menacing with an ethnic intimidation specification

A judge ordered Hamden held on a $500,000 bond. The attack came five days after a gunman in Minnesota assassinated State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark and wounded State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette Republicans and Democrats alike condemned the attack on Miller On X House Speaker Mike Johnson said quote

We must turn down the temperature in this country. And in a statement, House Democratic leaders called on Congress to take action to protect

all members from threats. Members of Congress, their families and their staffs were the subject of more than 9,000

threats last year, according to the U.S. Capitol Police. That's 140% more than in 2017

Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, spoke about the need for security

and criticized President Donald Trump during an appearance on ABC's The View

Do you feel safe as an elected official in this political climate

No, not at all. I mean, here's the deal. I do this job and the fact that my safety is a part of doing this job is really bad in and of itself

But while we spend millions upon millions just so that this guy can go and golf

or while they spent $45 million for his little birthday parade, you know, like, I'm just saying, can we repartize some of those dollars
