Which Eye Patch is Best

Hey, today I want to talk to you all about patches

So if you have a lazy eye or strabismus or amblyopia, whatever you call it, you've probably

had to patch as a child because that's pretty much the number one prescribed treatment by

ophthalmologists and optometrists. Now that doesn't mean it's the only solution. Vision therapy is another great option and a lot of times patching is included in vision

therapy but that's another video today we're talking about how to find the perfect patch for you so three

years ago I was driving a babysitter home from my house at night and I went off the road because I thought

the car coming towards me was in my lane and I couldn't tell where I was and I went off the road

and I luckily we didn't have an accident I was able to get right back on the road but I realized

something was wrong with my vision and I went to an optometrist and the first thing we tried was

patching. Over the course of about four months, I tried so many different types of patches

Everything from cloth patches and sticker patches and anything I could find at a drugstore or

on Amazon, even Etsy, I was trying so many different options trying to find something that would

make it easier because patching is hard and having the right patch does make it a lot simpler

But for the purposes of this video I just going to go through some basic things you can look at when you deciding what kind of patch to go with Whether you want a cloth patch or a sticker patch here are some things to consider

So with a sticker patch, I can get like the plain skin colored ones, but there's also tons and tons of options for really fun designs

There's seaworthy patches where you can color and design your own. Orthopod and MIA both have MII have options on Amazon that are affordable and customizable and really fun too

So with sticker patches, the pros that I think is that you can't take it off

So this is for adults and kids because you think that as an adult I would just leave the patch on, but I don't because it's hard to see when you have a patch on

So if you have a cloth patch that can easily be taken off and on, when you're going to read

or do something that requires like some really intense scene, you don't even notice

I will just put my patch on my head, like a headband, and forget that I had taken the patch off

And so the cloth patches were hard when I was trying to patch for a long period of time

On the other hand, a sticker patch is kind of hard to get off. You know, it's pretty sticky, and sometimes it can pull a little bit

so you're not just going to take it off and on every time you have to do something with your detailed, you know

vision. So if you're trying to do patching for a certain number of hours a day, depending on what

your optometrist or ophthalmologists told you to do, definitely use a sticker patch. The things

I don love about the sticker patch is it vanity Okay It ruins my eye makeup and makes my eyelashes go flat and weird And it like it looks medical right And I know that shouldn be a problem

But like, when people would come to my house and I was wearing a sticker patch, they'd gasp and be like

oh, what happened? But if I was wearing, like, the more pirate patch look, they'd be like, oh, why are you

patching and it was just more of like a therapeutic look. So that kind of bothered me. That's not a

big deal. It's not a deal breaker. Some great things about the sticker patch is it blocks all the light out

There's no peeking. There's no light coming through. You're completely blocking out that good eye so that

bad eye can be improving. So that's a huge pro. And also another vanity thing, it doesn't mess with your hair

So, you know, with a patch with a string, it's going over your hair and your hair is getting all

messed up and it's just kind of annoying and it slips around the sticker patch is just there and it's

not going anywhere so i am not patching like for hours a day anymore but when i was i definitely

opted for the sticker patch more often than not even though it ruined my makeup cloth patches definitely

have their place though because they are easy to take on and off and so when i'm doing exercises

where I'm trying to focus on my left eye and then my right eye individually definitely use a cloth patch

And so now that I'm done with like that original like patching for hours a day part of taking my vision to the next level

now I use a cloth patch way more often They also have so many different cute designs You can go on Etsy and there are about a billion different options for patches that are super fun So that another pro of having a cloth patch

You can also get a cloth patch that goes over your glasses and I've heard that those are really

convenient for kids, especially if they have a need for glasses. It just, it makes it so that, you know

if they need those glasses to see, they're going to leave their glasses on. They're not going to be taking their glasses on and off. The only problem is that they can peek sometimes. You've got to make

nowadays are saying like, oh, patching is bad. And it really did make a difference for me. I went from only being able

to use my left eye to being able to control my right eye as well. So I kind of woke up that right

eye and was able to switch between the two eyes. Now I'm doing vision therapy and taking it to a whole

new level. But that patching in the very beginning definitely helped. It didn't get me all the way there
