Here is why you should periodize your training even as a beginner
0:02
If you periodize your training, you're going to have a higher genetic ceiling as represented by this dotted line
0:07
If you do more basic training that is highly specific, such as jumping every day, and then just doing three sets of five power clean, back squat and deadlifts every other day
0:14
you're going to have a lot of progress early on because of the high levels of specificity
0:18
as shown by this solid line. But you're very quickly going to run into a plateau
0:24
Periodized training allows you to slow cook the process, so you're not going to progress this fast initially
0:28
but you're going to blast through whatever plateau you would have been doing with the high level specificity
0:33
and you're going to raise your genetic potential. Remember, you're only going to have the highest response to a stimulus the first time you subject your body to it
0:41
So save that high specificity level of training for when you're a more advanced athlete
0:46
and do the general work first, periodize it so you can have a higher genetic ceiling
