Robert, a long word Spanish radio in New York City
0:03
Now that you have a couple of days to digest what happened on Saturday
0:08
did any of your thoughts change as far as how the game went and ended
0:15
Of course, when you have a little more time to digest it and review the match
0:21
certain things come to mind. But overall, I think we did okay for a first match
0:27
but it also pointed out there's work to be done because we addressed game management from the beginning of the season
0:35
and we got a big, big lesson learned about game management in this game against Miami
0:42
considering the fact what happened at the end of the game. As far as what happened at the end of the game
0:47
when you reviewed the tape, is there anything that you would have liked to see the team do to win at that point
0:52
In the end phase, you mean? Yeah, a long ago. Yeah, of course, of course
0:56
It was one of the few times that we stretched ourselves when it was totally unnecessary
1:01
You see a few things from a naive perspective go on. The first moment is with Juli going down to the floor
1:10
Keats, one of our more experienced players, not making the foul. One of our youngsters not closing the channel enough, and we get punished severe for it
1:18
So it was, as I said just now, a big lesson learned
1:23
and hopefully we'll take that with us into the next games and try to avoid it
1:28
You're welcome. Okay, on to the Zoom. We'll go with Alex. Morning, Pascal
1:37
This is Alex Winley from AM New York. Morning, Alex. Morning. You praised the team's courage against Miami
1:43
but how do you build on that bravery heading into another tough road match against LAFC this weekend
1:48
Thanks. Well, the approach from a mental aspect, it doesn't change. I've mentioned a few times already in the outside world as well
1:57
what I'm focusing on is trying to get a bulletproof mindset and a bulletproof approach in each and every game that we go into
2:04
So from that angle it doesn change going into the L game So hopefully the boys like I discussed with the other colleagues of you just now have learned from game number one and take that with them into game number two
2:18
Chris? Hey, Coach. Chris Cameron from the outfield. I'm just wondering if you can give us an update injury status and availability-wise
2:26
for Saturday's match. Thanks. It's looking good. The injuries have gone down
2:33
Tomorrow will be the first time that Thiago is in the squad as well
2:38
so that's a very positive thing to notice. From now on, I hope the guys will be available and stay available
2:46
apart from the guys that have been away for a longer time already. George
2:56
George, you're muted. All right, we'll come back to you, George. We'll go with Alec
3:07
Hey, Coach. Alec Kossoff, 5 Barrow Footy. Hi, Alec. Today is roster compliance day, and we found out a little bit about the roster and what form it's currently in
3:17
When we spoke to David Lee, he mentioned that he was essentially looking at some players
3:24
but waiting for you to get more time with the squad to sort of understand, you know, where you felt it was and where we needed reinforcements
3:31
I was wondering if those conversations have continued, if you have, you know, sort of seen some areas that we would maybe need reinforcements and if we should still be expecting some enforcements before the end of the transfer window
3:45
Well, I hope there's going to be some activity in the transfer window still because we need a little bit more depth in the squad
3:54
These conversations that you mentioned are going on every day, I would say
4:00
I'm in contact with David as much as I can in order to discuss what I see and what I feel about the current squad
4:06
but also making sure that we are aligned in what we see needs to be done to strengthen the squad
4:13
So that is something that's ongoing still. And hopefully we have some good news in the nearby future Go ahead George Coach sorry about that Thank you for your time I want to talk to you a little bit about the travel that you had to deal with so far
4:30
You know, you started preseason in California, had to come back, opened up in the road in Miami
4:35
been here for a few days, heading back to California. I think this might be the first time you're having to deal with something like this
4:42
How do you take this into consideration with, you know, having to put your team together or whatnot
4:47
A good question. For me, it's the first time, but I have a very experienced squad around me and staff members as well. So they help me out a lot. I listen, of course, to my staff who have dealt with these kind of situations before and try to add details from my perspective
5:05
but it is what it is. It's a huge part of the MLS
5:10
and playing these games that we're going to play. So we just have to deal with it
5:15
and can never announce it as some kind of excuse not performing well enough
5:20
It is what it is and we deal with it the best way we can and prepare ourselves the best way we can
5:25
for each and every match. Scott? Hey, Coach, how are you? Scott Schertz of StreamFunk Soccer
5:33
Hi, Scott. Hey. Real quick, you mentioned Thiago Do we have any updates on Tavon? How's he doing
5:39
Yeah, Tavon is also good Yeah, he's in the squad I didn't mention in Tavon because it was only a few days
5:45
That he wasn't available He wasn't available for the Miami game But once we got back
5:50
And when we were in Miami, he was in training And when we got back, he got back into full training
5:54
With the squad again So he's part of the squad for tomorrow again Or today, traveling to LA
5:59
And for the squad on Saturday Playing against LA hey coach good morning
6:08
Diego Reyes of the Shot Magazine I just wanted to hear your overall thoughts on
6:14
Johnny Shore making his debut being the 9th homegrown player to make their MLS debut
6:20
overall thoughts on how he played and how you see the pathway be continued within MLS yeah he did make his debut It something he earned himself I didn know him before I came to the club obviously but he did really well during preseason alongside of Justin or Keats in the games that we played
6:45
So I was very confident to put him on the pitch when I saw the moment was there during halftime playing against Miami
6:53
so there was no doubt in my mind putting him in and that's something he achieved
6:58
by having a very good pre-season so going forward I hope he can continue
7:03
one of his strong aspects is he's been available all pre-season even though the intensity and the load
7:10
has gone up and that's a big achievement for Johnny and a few other youngsters
7:14
so hopefully he can continue and build from this game that he played 45 minutes
7:20
and final one we'll go with Michael Pascal, thanks for the time
7:26
Mike Andrew from Blue City Radio You're welcome Michael Along the same lines of talking about
7:32
Johnny Shore and some of these younger players Can you talk about how you develop them
7:36
Off the field, obviously you're trying To get them to play, integrate into your system
7:40
And play better, but talk about their development As professional athletes Well, so far
7:45
I must say that the culture and the environment Within New York has been tremendous
7:49
So the guys have have grown and have been brought up in a way within the academy structure that I that I like
7:57
myself I see a lot of resemblance in certain aspects where I come from now I just try to add
8:05
the details and my approach and that's by having conversations obviously sharing videos making sure
8:12
that what I want to get across on the pitch is there in training but also making sure that I put
8:18
them in a certain context during training exercises to see how they will behave
8:23
And then, of course, evaluate these moments and make sure that the execution of decision
8:28
making is going in the right way and at the right speed
8:33
So it's a combination of several factors, but just making sure you're aware of how they
8:38
grow is something that is very important within this process
