Hey, what's going on? It is Scott from StreamPunk Soccer. Apologies, the audio is a little off
0:04
I'm currently recording this with a cat on my lap. But anyway, today we're going to try something a little bit new
0:10
I'm going to call it Transaction Reaction. It's our take on recent moves inside Major League Soccer, both with teams we cover and also just in general
0:17
So, less intros, more opinions. Let's roll. Number one. Oh, damn. Duke fans are definitely pissed about this one
0:27
But Tom Bogert broke it on Twitter that the Philadelphia Union have sent 21-year-old Jack McGlynn to the Houston Dynamo for 2 million plus add-ons
0:34
and the response has been, let's just say, verbal. McGlynn is a 21-year-old midfielder who's been with the organization since 2019
0:45
so the move, while possibly good on paper for the Philadelphia Union, hasn't been good with the fans
0:50
As for Houston, this could straight up be a steal. McGlynn is a kid that's on the rise, so I'm going to be very curious to see how he syncs up
0:57
I pulled a couple quotes from our union sports writers and photographers, including Steve Fuentes, J.D. Walker, and Kyle Krieger, for their take on the move
1:04
so let me know if you agree. Number two I doing this one personally but I wanted to address the move by the New York City Football Club in their decision to loan 19 Jovan Mijatovic to Olejevic in Belgium at least through June
1:20
This move I straight up don't get, I really don't. They brought this kid over, they signed him through 2028 with an option through 2029 for an $8.6 million transfer fee, and then pop him right over to Belgium
1:34
Jovan was admittedly pissed about his lack of playing time here in New York. I thought personally that was more of a Nick Cushing thing
1:40
With Cushing being dismissed and new head coach Pascal Jansen coming in
1:44
he'd get more time this season, and that last year was just an adjustment year to him playing here in the States
1:48
Apparently not. Maybe he comes back, maybe he doesn't. Good for him, definitely he's getting more playing time
1:55
but a little personally disappointed for what could have been. I never actually spoke to him that I can recall, but we did cross paths
2:00
but on the upside I did get this clip of him off my phone doing a dance last year at Red Bull Arena
2:05
The little things you'll remember. Number three. So yes, I'm aware this is old news, but I've never discussed it
2:12
Huge credit to the San Jose Earthquakes. They are clearly trying to undo the pain of the last few
2:18
years and especially last year and personally I love the shit out of it Yes there some baggage that comes with it New head coach Bruce Arena comments that cause him to leave the revolution is an example but adding a head coach with success Joseph Martinez from Montreal
2:32
and Chicho Arango from RSL, there is no reason this team can't at least compete for a playoff spot in October
2:38
Last year, Arango and Martino's combined for a total of 28 goals, and right now San Jose, I think, can really benefit from some excitement of the world of sports
2:46
The Sharks are right now the worst team in the NHL, and they haven't made the playoffs since before COVID
2:51
So, let's see what the Earthquakes can do this season, but at the very least, I think they're going to be exciting
2:56
Number four. He comes into Charlotte, he's sent out of Charlotte. He comes back to Charlotte, and he gets sent out of Charlotte again
3:02
He's Karol Swiderski, and this time, he's heading to Greece. Swiderski just turned 28
3:07
and while he did struggle some in his short time in Italy, his success with Charlotte is proven with 32 goals in 85 games
3:14
The Crowns got $2 million from Panthinaikos, but losing him again will put pressure on his old team to pick up the slack
3:20
I'll say this though, every time he leaves Charlotte, the view count over a video of him scoring 12 goals in the season for Charlotte shoots up
3:27
but that notwithstanding, Swidurski does deserve another crack at Europe. Nostalgia Critic, Carol
3:34
That pretty much going to do it but I do want to add one quick P back on the NYCFC front And with that also a shout out The Pigeons sent 18 Christian McFarlane to Manchester City in a move that was always more of a when not an if
3:47
But in a weird twist, I got to know his mom pretty well. Because McFarlane didn't drive, one of his parents would drive him to training from Long Island to Orangeburg, New York every day
3:56
They'd wait there during training, usually by the window next to the pitch, then drive home
4:01
Usually it was his mom that did it, but I just want to say what a rocking pair of parents
4:05
That is awesome to see. It really warmed my heart. I'm going to miss his parents sitting in the corner on the NYCFC Wi-Fi this season
4:12
but his transfer to Manchester City is as much a win for his parents as it is for him
4:17
So anyway, good luck to the entire McFarlane family out there in the UK. I'm Scott from StreamPunk Soccer
4:24
Let me know in the comments what you think about these moves, if they make sense or they were dumb as hell
4:28
Also, let me know if you want more content like this. I'm considering adding more reaction-style content, but at the end of the day, we work for you
4:36
Anyway, as always, thanks for watching, and stay awesome. And also, in addition, San Jose could really benefit from some sports..
4:43
Oh, Scully
