Hello everybody, this is J.D. Walker from Stream Punk Sports. I'm here with Teddy Shurliss, co-founder of Men's X Mental
0:09
And we're here at the Mental Health Shore Showcase with three local shore conference teams
0:17
Teddy, how are you doing today? You want to... Doing great. It's exciting to see the turnout for such a good cause and people united around that one cause
0:25
It's awesome to see. Okay, now can you tell us a little more about your organization and the cause that we're all here for today
0:31
Yeah, so the cause, first and foremost, it's really the purpose and it's our true mission to save one life
0:36
I think that's a win, regardless of how many people come. We have a community of male athletes from across the country now
0:43
It's scaled nationwide, and it's 500 athletes plus from the levels of middle school, collegiate, to the professional leagues
0:51
And it's been awesome to be able to give that sense of community and sense of belonging to these athletes who sometimes don't have it
0:58
It's about creating a support system for mental health. For men's mental health is an area that is widely overlooked
1:07
And that's part of your mission to bring more attention to that. Exactly right. Yeah
1:11
Our goal is to bring the conversation to where male athletes usually are most comfortable
1:15
And that's support, the football field, baseball field. and just try to normalize these conversations because it's not weird to speak up or seek help
1:23
And for men specifically, we deal with a lot, a lot of trauma, a lot of struggle, and it often goes unspoken and unheard
1:29
So, you know, what we try to do is just break down that barrier, that stigma
1:33
and give them the resources which is the newest most you know recent development within organization where it beyond the the community and it now being able to provide tangible resources for our
1:45
male athletes okay and uh can you talk a little bit about the teams here today uh we're uh speaking
1:50
right now between the first game and the second game uh rbc beat ranny uh in the first uh matchup
1:55
right and uh we have uh cba and red bank regional coming up and then uh the uh the powerhouse uh
2:02
teams uh st rose and uh union catholic uh coming up you want to talk about a little more about
2:07
about how that came together with uh the six teams yeah the six teams are they've been supportive
2:12
through the beginning this has been about a four or five month planning process uh but to have the
2:18
support of not only the athletes and the players themselves but the coaches is huge because you
2:22
can't expect the athletes to understand how to support themselves if the coaches can't be there
2:26
as well so united around one cause these six teams are incredible in their own right in different
2:31
unique ways uh the first game was awesome just ended and we had a good battle um but this next
2:37
one is a top five matchup within the short conference and the one after that the third
2:41
game union catholic st rose that's a state powerhouse game uh top 10 matchup that everybody
2:47
should be here for okay and uh where can people find you and uh your organization and uh more
2:53
