Lake Tahoe is no stranger to winter weather advisory’s and typically sees some serious storms roll through however the whole region has been absolutely hammered by snow during the 2023 season. The alpine region located on the border of California and Nevada has just entered another weekend of blizzard conditions after seeing some recording breaking snowfall the previous weekend. The blizzard warnings set in on the 24th of February and snow continued to fall for around a week, by the time the sun came out Palisades Tahoe has seen 148” of new snow across the top of the resort. 148” is 375cm which is what many resorts across the east coast, Australia and New Zealand will see in a whole winter season and this is what the resorts had to deal with in 8 days. 7 Day Total Snowfall Boreal: 126” / 320cm Sugar Bowl: 119” / 302cm Palisades Tahoe: 107” / 271cm Northstar: 97” / 246cm Diamond Peak: 94” / 238cm Homewood: 92” / 233cm Mt Rose Ski Tahoe: 90” /228cm Kirkwood: 82” / 208cm Sierra at Tahoe: 80” / 203cm Heavenly: 75” / 190cm There was a brief period of sunshine where many of the mountain teams could get out to just to dig out the resorts before the next blizzard took aim at the region. Over the weekend the area is forecasted to see several more feet of snow and this will continue as there is no break in the weather in the forecast. Hats off to the mountain ops team who are tirelessly digging out the resort as well as CalTrans and all the plow teams who are able to get the roads in drivable conditions.
