Jackson Township Council meeting Tuesday
0:04
night after a resident approached the
0:06
council during a heated exchange.
0:08
Nicholas Mochio called Mayor Jennifer
0:10
Kuhn and Republican Council officials
0:12
fascists and demanded their removal from
0:14
office and arrest asking for an
0:17
independent investigation. He also
0:19
accused officials of supporting
0:21
genocide, a reference to the Republican
0:23
Party's pro-Israel stance.
0:25
>> Uh Mayor Kuhn and Monica Bernstein and
0:27
any other fascists in this town need to
0:28
be removed from office and held on any
0:29
charges that can be brought up after a
0:31
thorough third-party investigation.
0:35
>> I'm going to take offense. I don't think
0:36
anyone up here is a fascist and I don't
0:37
think anyone here supports genocide and
0:39
on the victims of October 7th were
0:41
victims of terror and I'm just going to
0:43
say that and I'm going to continue to
0:44
say that and if you disagree, you're
0:45
welcome to disagree. It's America and
0:47
we're allowed to disagree but I'm
0:48
that's, you know, um what I'm going to
0:50
say what what when it comes to
0:52
um that note.
0:53
>> In Jackson, the entire mayor and council
0:55
elected body are registered Republicans
0:58
although the Township's form of
0:59
government is officially non-partisan.
1:02
Council President Mordecai Bernstein, an
1:04
Orthodox Jewish rabbi, said he was
1:06
offended. Mochio then rose from his seat
1:09
and aggressively approached the council
1:11
as audience members shouted. Officers
1:14
escorted him away from the council bench
1:16
after a few moments.
1:17
>> Now, um
1:23
>> Order.
1:24
Step back. Step back from me.
1:27
>> Don't touch him.
1:29
I'M NOT TOUCHING HIM.
1:31
>> IT'S MY WAY to kill speech not to
1:33
>> HE'S TALKING TO NOT INTIMIDATING HIM.
1:38
BACK OFF.
1:39
>> WHAT?
1:40
>> YOU BETTER back your cops off.
1:42
>> Nick.
1:42
>> That's intimidation. 18 USC 241, 18 USC
1:48
242. BACK OFF.
1:50
>> I'M IN THE I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A
1:51
MEETING. ORDER. I'm
1:53
I'm telling you
1:56
>> 18 USC 241,
1:59
18
2:00
>> I'm I'm going to take a 30-second
2:02
recess. Count Count I'm going to take a
2:03
30-second recess.
2:09
Can we just have order, please? Order.
2:11
Order. Order.
2:14
Can we just have order?
2:20
>> The dispute centered on efforts to find
2:22
Mochio's missing friend, Mortimer
2:24
Wortman, a Jackson resident who
2:26
disappeared last November. Mochio
2:28
accuses the township and the council of
2:30
not doing enough to find the missing
2:32
man. The case remains an active
2:34
investigation at the Jackson Police
2:36
Department. No arrest or criminal charge
2:39
was reported in connection with the
2:40
disturbance.
