The Least Helpful Animal Adaptations

Evolution works in mysterious ways. Natural selection has given us all sorts of amazing animals with incredible talents, from fast-swimming sharks to functionally immortal jellyfish, but unfortunately not all animals are so lucky. In fact, some animals have evolved in such a way that their entire existence almost seems like a cosmic joke. Why would an animal evolve to consume a diet that offers almost no nutrients or give birth in such a way that both the mother and the child are in life-threatening danger nearly the entire time? We don't have an answer, but we do have a list of the worst animal evolutions in history.
