From almost non-existent tracks serving only cross-border trade, ambitious projects like the Trans-Afghan Railway, the Five Nations Railway Corridor, and the Towrgondi–Herat–Kandahar-Spin Boldak line could turn the country into a central hub connecting Central and South Asia. Despite brutal mountains, deserts, and decades of conflict, Afghanistan is gradually building the infrastructure to move goods faster, cheaper, and more efficiently. The country is also developing its own railway industry, from producing rails at the Melat Steel plant to assembling locomotives. This video explores these projects, their challenges, and the enormous potential impact on trade, mobility, and economic growth — giving Afghanistan a chance to finally become the land bridge it was always meant to be.
