From the woods to the hood, you got to be prepared and I'm going to show you a kit
0:05
that I put together specifically for urban unrest and getting out of the city
0:09
So stick around, it's gonna be a great video. I put together a kit that I keep in my truck that when things go down in an urban environment
0:32
I have something I can grab and I can get out of town
0:37
A big concern of mine working in the city is that if something happens, civil unrest
0:45
rioting, all that kind of stuff that we've been seeing in the news, if it occurs in my
0:51
area while I'm at work, how am I going to get out of the city
0:55
And that means I'm going to probably have to ditch my vehicle pretty quickly and maybe
0:59
hoof it and if I do that, I'm going to have to have some gear with me that's going to
1:03
get me through and get me home. So the gear that I'm going to be showing you today is going to be specifically for
1:09
an urban environment, for a quick overnight if possible. This is not long-term wilderness survival, this is urban survival and it's a lot different
1:22
than what I usually do on this channel. So let's take a look at this kit I put together with this bag and see what is in it
1:40
So what I love about the Pygmy Falcon from Expedition is that it's 1000D Cordura, it's
1:48
DuPont treated material so it's water resistant and heavy duty YKK zippers and the whole pack
1:54
is just incredibly durable and perfect for the urban environment. But one of the other things I love about this pack is the fact that when you unzip it, it
2:08
completely clamshells open and this makes for getting to the contents of my pack very easy
2:17
Alright, so what do we have in this pack? First thing on the outside of the bag, I've got this trauma kit and this is basically
2:25
just a bleed control kit. It's not a heavy duty IFAK, I'm not doing a lot of field surgery with this thing
2:33
This is basically stopping the bleed. So we've got a tourniquet, we have a quick deploy pouch, an emergency bandage, compressed
2:49
gauze, and then a hemostatic gauze package. This is all from Rhino Rescue
2:59
It's a nice compact, easy to get to bleed control kit. So this is really for, in my mind, treating myself if I get injured
3:11
I can quickly deploy this. On the outside of the bag here, I've got this down here and this is kind of an interesting
3:19
piece of kit. This is actually a piece of camouflage material and I got this from Colorado Bushcraft Outfitters
3:30
I think is the name of the company. What it is, it's basically a multicam black Cordura tarp
3:39
What's great about this is if I have to ditch my pack or if I have to lay low in the bushes
3:44
or something, I can throw this over and that's going to be some camouflage material
3:49
But also, since it's Cordura, it's very durable. I can lay this on the ground and this can be actually a place to sit or to sleep if
3:57
I have to. This one is a climbing rated carabiner, so I can use this for a lot of different applications
4:06
In here, we're going to have a basic first aid kit. So this is going to be for minor abrasions, just band-aids, tapes, and gauze, lip balm
4:16
and some ways of disinfecting the wound. Of course, a Bic lighter
4:22
I don't need a lot of fire-starting equipment. Remember, I'm trying to keep this pack light and stealthy, so a Bic lighter is going to
4:29
be good enough for what I need to accomplish. Some basic toiletry items, so we've got wet wipes, some foot powder, and some hand sanitizer
4:43
In this pocket, I have a lot of tools, so I have heavy-duty Gorilla Tape, zip ties
4:55
clothes sticks, my multi-tool, which when I'm running around, I'm going to take this
5:02
out and put this on my belt. So this is my SOG power pliers, fantastic tool
5:10
A couple of items that I think are very unique, and I don't see in a lot of different kits
5:16
for urban unrest, are these two items. So we've got pepper spray, so that's going to be a non-lethal deterrent if I get into
5:25
a situation. And then the other thing is a smoke bomb. This is from Enola Gay
5:32
It's one of their smoke grenades. These are legal to purchase online, but that's going to create a diversion and maybe help
5:40
me escape an area if I have to. Another great item to have is an all-weather Sharpie-type pen
5:47
This one's from Milwaukee Tools. I really like these because these will write on a variety of different surfaces
5:56
Then for a light source, you need a good flashlight, and I prefer a flashlight for this scenario
6:01
over a headlamp because a headlamp is hard to get on and off at times
6:06
It's not as quick. This is the, I think the Wuben X3 that they just came out with
6:13
It's a really fantastic light, and what I like about it is, rotating head, so that puts
6:20
it forward-facing, or I can use it like a traditional flashlight, but it has a magnetic
6:27
base, which is fantastic in an urban environment. I also can charge this with my charging brick that I'm going to carry with me, but what
6:37
I can utilize this for is, I can put this on the strap of my backpack, and now I have
6:51
a forward-facing light for navigation in the dark that I can quickly turn on and off, and
6:57
it does have a red light mode and signaling modes. I can also charge it wirelessly, so it's a fantastic little flashlight that is very powerful
7:09
Doesn't take up a lot of room. I don't have to carry a lot of spare batteries with me, and it's multipurpose when I can
7:14
rotate that head. Another useful item in the urban environment, but not always useful, is your ability to navigate
7:26
Even a compass can be utilized sometimes in an urban environment. Of course, you've got to be careful when you're around a lot of metal or buildings
7:33
I can really throw things off, but there are open areas where you may be able to navigate with
7:38
And of course, if you're navigating, it's always handy to have a map of your area
7:44
This is just a standard city map, but this at least will help me plan routes and get
7:49
me where I need to go. An important one is water purification
7:54
You don't know what your water sources are going to be like in an urban environment, especially when the grid goes down
8:00
The Grail water filter, I think, is probably the best choice because I can quickly scoop
8:06
up water out of different sources, press down, filtrate, and move on
8:11
I don't have to sit there and wait for the tabs to take effect
8:16
It is a grab-and-go item. It is quick and easy, and that's what you want
8:21
Of course, a standard water bottle is great, but one that is a single-wall stainless is
8:28
going to be even better. And I've got this great old Stanley that actually comes apart, and you can boil water in this
8:36
if need be or heat up water for food. A great item to have is one of these tubular neck gaiters
8:46
These are real popular. You can get these in all kinds of different colors and camos or whatever, different materials
8:51
What I like about these is you can wear this as a neck gaiter, a face mask, but you can
8:57
also wear it as a stocking cap. So it is multi-purpose. It is soft
9:03
It's great for wiping your face down if you're sweaty or hot
9:06
It's lightweight. Multi-purpose does many different things, and it's a great addition to your urban kit
9:12
Of course, gloves. You've got to have a pair of gloves. I really like the Mechanic Wear gloves
9:21
They're lightweight and durable. Lots of uses for a 550 cord. There's no reason not to have it
9:28
What I like to do is I like to get these spools at the dollar store and take the cheap cord
9:32
off and then put my good 550 cord on it, and then I've got a nice, easy, manageable roll
9:39
Food is super important, and one of the easiest ones to utilize is an MRE
9:47
You don't have to have a pot to cook in it. Just add water to the heater pack, and that'll reconstitute your meal, make it nice and hot
9:58
So I always keep at least one broken-down MRE in my bag
10:01
And then on top of that, I like to have at least a variety of snacks
10:09
So with this one, I've got beef jerky, I've got different snack bars, I've got some hydration
10:17
mixes, I've got some coffee packets, just a variety of different things
10:21
For tools, I think this is probably pound for pound one of the best tools that I've
10:27
seen on the market. It is from O-Knife. I did a review of this recently out in the woods, but really, this thing is geared towards
10:38
the urban environment because you have a very sharp, capable hatchet. You have that hammerhead strike face for demoing
10:48
And then on the end is a pry bar, and we all know that is going to be an excellent item
10:53
in an urban situation. If you need to get into places that you're not supposed to be or need to get out of places
10:58
that you're in, this is going to help. As far as other tools, I'm really not carrying a lot of knives, but I do carry a pocket knife
11:07
I don't think you need a big fixed blade knife in an urban scenario
11:11
That's just going to draw attention, but a good pocket knife is going to be worth its
11:16
weight in gold. This is a Civivi Praxis. It is a large folding knife
11:23
It's a flipper. I think this is D2 steel. It's just a great pocket knife, and you can do a lot with this
11:31
This is the military version, but there's commercial versions of this as well
11:35
It's silver on one side to reflect your body heat, and then camo green on the other
11:40
And this can be actually utilized as a sleeping bag, so you just roll up in it, and that's
11:46
going to at least keep you warm. And then if you need to turn this into a tarp, you can do that as well
11:52
So a lot of different uses, very lightweight. I'm not going to carry a big heavy-duty sleeping system
12:00
Remember, we're trying to get home quickly, and we want to stay under the radar and not
12:05
have a gigantic backpack, so we've got to go lightweight. More tools, of course, the Silcot key, a very important piece of equipment to have, because
12:15
if you need to get water out here in a place like this, in like one of these industrial
12:20
parks, all the water spigots are going to be shut off, and this will help you get one
12:24
of those open. It is an expensive item, but it is worth it, and let me show you what this is
12:30
So this is a gas mask from Mira Safety
12:40
Now this is CBRN rated, so that is chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear rated
12:48
and that means the rubber is treated, or it's a special, I wouldn't say treated, it's a
12:53
special kind of rubber that is not affected by blistering agents. It has a drink port right here, so you can hook that up to a military canteen, or you
13:07
can hook it up to a filtration system, or bladder like Camelbak or Source, and of course
13:16
it is 40 millimeter threaded NATO canister, and Mira does sell the canisters as well
13:24
so I keep this one sealed, but it's a side mount. What I like about this particular gas mask is the full face shield that gives me a really
13:33
nice 360 degree view. I'm able to see what I'm doing, and then what I do is I keep this thing wrapped up with
13:45
the foam protector that it came with in the packaging when I got it, and then I keep it
13:49
in this military sustainment pouch, and then the filter goes right in there, and then that
13:56
keeps everything together for grab and go. Very easy to breathe in this, not an issue, has a good tight seal around it, and the field
14:19
of view is fantastic. Way better than a lot of surplus gas masks that you get
14:29
So one thing I didn't go over in this video is pistols or weapons
14:36
If you are a concealed carry holder, or a constitutional carry holder, and you have
14:40
a pistol, that's something you'll want to consider and work into the mix
14:45
A holster for your body, or a very secure off-carry method like in a fanny pack, that
14:53
would pair very well with this small backpack, and would be very under the radar in most scenarios
15:00
A black fanny pack is virtually unnoticeable these days, people wear them all the time
15:04
see them everywhere, so you'd be able to wear one of those with your pistol concealed in
15:08
that, and then have your backpack, and then I think most people won't give you notice
15:24
What I like about having a small backpack for this scenario, in the area that I work
15:36
in, it is easy to grab, and I don't have to sit there and spend a lot of time thinking
15:42
of like, oh, I need to grab this, I need to grab that
15:46
You want to be able to grab this thing and leave in seconds, because with rioting, civil
15:52
unrest, you may be driving and come to an area that is blocked and unpassable, and your
15:59
vehicle may be taken over very quickly, there may be a mob coming, so you may have to grab
16:04
this bag and hoof it quickly, so you don't want to be rummaging through your vehicle
16:10
looking for stuff, so having a backpack that is small, lightweight, has all the tools you
16:18
need for a quick scenario, is what you are looking for with this
