time for a fireside chat we're going to
0:01
be talking about my 10 favorite pieces
0:05
of Bushcraft gear that I own and that I
0:08
use and I love and I will never get rid
0:11
of stick around we're going to get into
0:21
it if you're new to the channel welcome
0:24
thanks for clicking and opening up this
0:28
video and checking it out if you are a
0:30
subscriber thank you so much for
0:32
trusting in me to subscribe and coming
0:35
back and watching my videos today's
0:37
video um I want to show and discuss what
0:41
I consider probably my 10 favorite
0:44
pieces of gear now with gear and knives
0:49
and all that stuff that we have as Bush
0:51
Crafters campers hikers Preppers
0:53
survivalist whatever there's tons of
0:56
things that I can go into my gear room
1:00
and pick and say this is one of my
1:01
favorites lots of gear that I have that
1:05
um has very sentimental value um and
1:09
some of those things don't get used they
1:11
just get put up on a shelf and look at
1:14
them every once in a while but things
1:17
that I actually take out with me that
1:19
I've used over the years that I've come
1:22
to rely on and that I always keep coming
1:25
back to that's what we're going to look
1:26
at that's what we're going to discuss
1:28
and I'm going to show you some past
1:30
videos of me using this stuff so you get
1:32
an idea exactly how much I love it but
1:36
I'm going to show you everything and see
1:39
what you guys think and then of course
1:41
in the comments tell me some of your
1:43
favorite pieces of gear that you just
1:44
cannot live without you'll never get rid
1:46
of so let's just jump right into it and
1:48
see what we have because it's all right
1:51
behind me let's check it out so these
1:54
are some of my favorite pieces of gear
1:56
that I've owned for many years and have
1:59
been with me on a lot of different trips
2:02
day trips overnighters weekenders
2:05
camping with buddies just all kinds of
2:08
different stuff and in no particular
2:11
order I'm going to go through this stuff
2:13
um these are all things that I feel um I
2:17
can depend on they've always served me
2:19
well and I just love them and I can't
2:22
see myself getting rid of them and I go
2:23
through a lot of different gear I I buy
2:25
sell and trade stuff all the time I get
2:27
new things in I try it out I don't like
2:30
it but this stuff I always seem to come
2:33
back to and there's uh just a variety of
2:36
items here so the first item is probably
2:40
one of the more I would say
2:43
controversial items uh people kind of
2:46
love or hate this knife but it is the
2:49
Topps tracker now this is a Topps T1
2:54
tracker um it's a much older model I've
2:56
had this thing for a very long time and
2:58
it's been heavily modified IED as you
3:00
can tell the
3:02
blade has been reground so it is a very
3:07
scary sharp little convex uh this thing
3:11
is a wood processing
3:13
machine and uh you know love it or hate
3:16
it it works for me and that's all that
3:19
really matters to me and I can never see
3:21
myself getting rid of it uh it works
3:24
incredibly well and I'm going to show
3:26
you some video of this thing in action
3:30
and why I love it now I need to take
3:32
this out more it's been a while since
3:34
I've had this knife
3:49
out
3:58
almost there we go
4:02
this is a a sheet that I recently
4:04
received um from Valley Reb we did a
4:07
trade and this is a sheet I think he
4:09
made or he had made for a Tracker um it
4:11
has a tin pouch on it and of course a
4:13
fire steel Loop but it's a very cool
4:17
heavyduty leather sheath um love
4:20
it another trusted piece of gear um that
4:23
I've had for many many years is the bco
4:25
Lap Lander now a lot of guys love the
4:28
silkies I like silky saws I like all
4:31
kinds of different saws um but for
4:33
whatever reason the Bako is something I
4:36
always keep coming back to um it cuts on
4:39
the pull and the push uh so it makes it
4:42
a little bit more sturdy and versatile
4:45
um also the blade um is designed to cut
4:48
wood but also cut into bone so if you're
4:52
a hunter this may be something that is
4:55
more up your alley I've had this one for
4:58
a very long time I think this is
5:00
probably one of the first saws I bought
5:01
when I first started getting into the
5:03
whole Bushcraft thing I've since bought
5:07
an extra one but this one still works
5:09
great um as you can tell it's been very
5:12
well used but it's still sharp it still
5:14
Cuts wood and it's just a handy size and
5:18
um of course you can replace the blades
5:20
on these you can't go wrong with the
5:23
bco next is um another piece of gear
5:28
that some people think is kind crazy U
5:30
but I absolutely love it and this is my
5:34
pocket Bellows um the pocket
5:37
Bellows really is such a great tool for
5:41
starting a fire especially when the fire
5:44
is maybe the wood is wet or damp um
5:48
conditions are not ideal maybe you don't
5:49
have enough Tinder this thing will get a
5:52
marginal fire going very quickly by
5:55
blowing air into the the main source of
5:59
where you're trying to get the fire fire
6:01
started now this
6:03
one is actually a pocket Bellows brand
6:07
so it is I believe this is a made in USA
6:10
company I don't know if they make these
6:12
anymore um I've had mine for quite a
6:14
while um you can get these on Amazon of
6:17
course you know there's uh a million
6:20
different um Chinese versions but this
6:22
is the one that I have I have a lot of
6:24
these in all my kits but this is the
6:25
original and this is the one that um I
6:28
really I love so
6:31
much another fantastic item that I can't
6:34
live without of course is a bandana but
6:37
this bandana in particular and other
6:39
ones that I have like it is a little bit
6:41
different because it is so much bigger
6:44
than a standard bandana um and I can't
6:49
remember the dimensions on this I'll
6:50
measure this and put a caption down
6:51
below but you can see how much bigger
6:54
this thing is and when you're
6:57
camping and you're cooking over a fire
7:00
um having a bandana is such a a blessing
7:03
to have with you because you can grab a
7:05
pot off the fire uh you can wrap up your
7:07
pots and pans clean your hands clean
7:10
your face so many different uses for a
7:13
bandana and when I find these big ones
7:16
like this I always grab them and uh this
7:18
is a recent addition that I found this
7:20
one love the size of this thing is so
7:24
much more versatile than a standard size
7:26
bandan
7:29
next tool I want to show you is the old
7:32
Victorinox farmer now this particular
7:37
farmer um is an older model because it
7:41
has just the Cross badge the newer ones
7:44
have the course the victoro shield um I
7:47
don't know the date on this thing I've
7:49
had it for many years um it's been on a
7:51
lot of trips with
7:53
me and um I have it hooked up to this
7:58
um this two uh strand twist uh paracord
8:02
that I put together for it to make a
8:04
little
8:05
lanyard and of course I've got Carabiner
8:08
on one end to hook to my to my belt loop
8:11
and then this hooks into the the ring on
8:14
the farmer now what what makes the
8:16
farmer so different and great over other
8:20
Swiss Army knives or Victorinox Knives
8:23
is that is the tool selection is pretty
8:26
ideal for a bush crafter and the first
8:29
thing is the all the all on this knife
8:34
is in the correct position so you can
8:36
actually strike Ferro rod and not have
8:38
it collapse on you so as you can see
8:42
when you open
8:44
this it's stiff in the back it's not
8:46
going to close on you when you put
8:49
pressure down on a Ferro Rod so when
8:50
you're striking your Ferro Rod this is
8:52
in the in the perfect position for that
8:55
and then plus the all itself is a very
8:58
handy tool
9:00
uh for making um uh punches in Leather
9:04
And even in in drilling into wood and
9:07
then the other feature that I love about
9:09
the the
9:11
farmer the saw is perfect for small camp
9:16
chores crafts you know if you're cutting
9:20
out uh Wooden Spoons or making a uh a
9:25
set to hang your pots you know over your
9:27
fire and you want to saw um some notches
9:31
and some wood this little saw is a beast
9:34
it does a very good job and it's just a
9:36
handy little tool to
9:38
have knives and Swiss Army knives it has
9:41
its standard array of items
9:45
including bottle opener can opener
9:52
screwdrivers and then of course the pen
9:55
blade and the Victorinox Knives the
9:58
steel that they use on these this the
10:00
stainless um is such a a high quality
10:03
stainless it it does a fantastic job
10:05
it's very easy to sharpen stay sharp in
10:08
the field um if you had to choose one
10:12
pocket knife for Bushcraft the farmer
10:14
would be
10:16
it next item that I want to show you is
10:19
my canteen set
10:21
now this canteen set has appeared in
10:26
many many videos in different kits that
10:29
I've put together uh different campouts
10:31
I've shown this thing in action many
10:33
many times as you can tell it is pretty
10:36
well used I've cooked over the fire with
10:39
this thing a lot and also on a lot of
10:42
different types of stoves including esit
10:44
stoves and gas
10:46
stoves this is the Keith titanium
10:50
canteen with a cup and it does come with
10:54
a lid um the Keith canteen if you don't
10:57
know this is the that makes the heavy
11:01
cover canteen titanium set or at least
11:04
they used to I don't know if they still
11:05
do I don't even know if heavy cover
11:07
still in business but uh the Keith
11:10
canteen it's the exact same thing as the
11:12
heavy cover you can get these on Amazon
11:14
and they do work with the military stove
11:18
stand so it makes for a very nice system
11:21
and like I said have this many years
11:23
it's a very handy piece of equipment and
11:26
well worth the money in my opinion
11:29
and then to go along with that
11:32
set this very simple little sack that
11:36
tough posum gear makes and that keeps
11:39
everything contained but this allows me
11:42
to put my canteen set inside of a bag or
11:45
a Hab sack and not get it all soy and
11:48
dirty and that's why I love this thing
11:51
had this for many years and uh it does a
11:53
fantastic job of keeping everything
11:56
contained and while we are on the
11:58
subject of tough posum gear the good old
12:01
tough posum gear sit
12:04
pad this one I've had quite a while um
12:07
it looks pretty clean and that's because
12:10
I just ran this through my washing
12:12
machine this went on a trip with me last
12:14
week and it was pretty muddy and dirty
12:17
and that's what I love about this
12:18
particular Si pad is that you can remove
12:22
the core pull that out and then you can
12:25
wash your cover it has a nice blaze
12:28
orange side to it this also doubles as a
12:31
signal panel and then of course tough
12:34
possum gear very versatile they've added
12:36
these tabs to the sides so now you can
12:39
carry this in a lot of different ways
12:41
you can strap this to a pack you can run
12:43
shock cord through it you can fold this
12:46
thing up and stick it in a hav sack I
12:48
mean it's just a very versatile piece of
12:51
equipment and I can't imagine going out
12:54
in the woods without this
12:56
thing another piece of gear that I've
12:58
been utilizing for the past couple of
12:59
years um is this pair of boots and boots
13:03
are such an important piece of
13:05
equipment uh and especially for me
13:08
because I have really bad feet flat feet
13:10
weak ankles um I really need good
13:13
support and I need a good boot that is
13:16
going to have good traction uh but also
13:19
keep my feet dry and warm and this is a
13:22
pair of Nord of 8 hiking boots um you
13:26
can get these on Amazon they're very
13:29
inexpensive um they're
13:31
waterproof and I absolutely love them
13:33
they have been such a fantastic shoe for
13:36
me they held up well uh they're easy to
13:40
get on and off um they keep my feet dry
13:44
and they're very very comfortable now
13:46
for many years I was a Merill boot guy
13:49
all my boots were Merill and then I
13:51
switched over and started wearing
13:54
Solomons and um didn't care for the
13:57
Solomons at all didn't really like the
13:59
fit in the feel and thought they were
14:01
very overpriced and then I found these
14:02
these Nord of boots and I am absolutely
14:06
in love with them they make a few
14:08
different designs so I will have links
14:10
down below for a lot of this stuff if
14:12
you're interested in it but um these are
14:15
fantastic boots I'm I'm really happy
14:17
with them can't say enough about
14:19
them and they've they've held up very
14:22
well they haven't really worn out yet in
14:24
the past couple years I've been using
14:26
them
14:27
so now this piece of equipment um it's
14:32
not necessarily a fantastic backpack uh
14:35
there's nothing really Earth shattering
14:37
about it this is an old German um
14:40
Mountain
14:41
Ruck it was given to me by a buddy and
14:45
of course that elevates it um
14:48
immediately it's a gift so it's
14:50
something that was given to me and it
14:53
has sentimental value um but it's a very
14:56
simple backpack it's an old fash fashion
14:59
style backpack very
15:01
bushcrafty um you know just a simple
15:04
bucket design with a a draw string
15:07
collar and then side pockets for water
15:11
bottles um nothing fancy but the thing
15:15
that really sets this bag apart is this
15:18
right here and
15:21
um this patch belonged to my father he
15:25
was in the military um he enlisted I I
15:29
think um after Korea and served and he
15:32
actually went overseas to Italy and
15:35
that's where his deployment was and he
15:37
was with I believe this is the fourth
15:40
Army which is an army group that is no
15:43
longer in existence is now I think the
15:45
fourth ID um so this is an old unit
15:49
patch of his he gave this to me when I
15:51
was a kid um I remember getting this
15:54
from him and thinking it was just the
15:55
coolest thing ever and it actually
15:58
stayed in a cigar box in my bedroom for
16:01
many many
16:02
years and um I dug this thing out and I
16:05
had my wife sew this on my pack so now
16:08
when I go out on trips um my dad's with
16:12
me it's it's a great memory I love it um
16:16
it's very sentimental to me but that's
16:18
what makes it such a awesome piece of
16:20
gear that I will not get rid
16:22
of so the last piece of equipment that I
16:25
want to show you is this jacket now if
16:28
you if you watch my videos and you've
16:30
been following me for a while you've
16:31
probably seen this jacket pop up now and
16:34
then um I've had this thing
16:38
forever it is a Patagonia soft shell
16:42
jacket but it was military issue and was
16:46
part of the PCU I believe that's what
16:49
it's called the PCU um system and this
16:52
is the level five jacket um it was a
16:55
whole um system of clo that the military
17:00
came up with and one of the contractors
17:02
at that time was Patagonia and they had
17:04
soft shell soft shell jackets they had
17:07
uh fleece uh shirts I actually have one
17:10
of those as well there's windbreakers
17:12
wind pants rain jackets rain pants and I
17:16
think even a puffy coat and puffy pants
17:18
so the whole
17:20
system was
17:22
designed um for soldiers and I think
17:24
this is probably back in the '90s maybe
17:26
early 2000s mid 2000s when this came out
17:30
um it was to you know help soldiers be
17:32
more comfortable and effective in the
17:35
field um instead of using you know old
17:38
materials like cotton and all that kind
17:40
of crap so it's a fantastic jacket it is
17:45
starting to wear out pretty well uh the
17:47
tabs that
17:52
um hold the Cuffs together are are
17:55
rotting that's it's rubber they're
17:56
falling apart um actually actually lost
17:59
pieces of them um but the jacket still
18:03
does what it's supposed to do it does a
18:05
fantastic job of cutting wind um keeping
18:08
moisture off me it's not a raincoat it's
18:10
not 100% waterproof but it does a really
18:12
great job of keeping me dry and because
18:15
of how it's designed it also keeps my
18:18
core very cool because these
18:22
pockets are very large and it's mesh on
18:26
on the inside so if I leave these
18:28
Pockets open it will actually vent my
18:31
body heat out um which is just it's a
18:34
great design so you don't have to have
18:35
pit Zips and then a very simple chest
18:39
pocket that is also very generous I find
18:43
I use this thing all the time to hold my
18:45
phone um this jacket when it finally
18:49
dies I'm going to be very very sad
18:52
because I love this thing and of course
18:55
hood and it has a good hood on it
18:57
because it's actually designed to go
18:59
over a helmet um so it's generous and
19:02
you can cinch this thing
19:04
down and it's just you know as an
19:07
outdoors jacket um it is such an
19:11
important piece of equipment for me
19:12
because it is helping me maintain my
19:16
body temperature it's keeping me warm
19:18
and dry um and it fits perfectly it has
19:22
a very good range of
19:24
motion um I'm gonna be so sad when this
19:27
thing dies so if you if you if you know
19:29
of a good substitute for the the
19:32
Patagonia level five jacket let me know
19:35
because I'm looking to replace this
19:38
thing um as always thank you so much for
19:41
watching my video um if you like this
19:44
kind of content please consider
19:46
subscribing that helps me out quite a
19:48
bit and um share with your friends and
19:52
also leave a comment and as always thank
19:55
you so much for watching and we will see
19:57
you next time on the prepared Wanderer
20:00
or your silky or whatever else you use
20:02
you know those have real fine
20:06
teeth and they're designed for a very
20:09
specific
20:12
purpose and so are the teeth on this
20:16
because in my mind this is a notching
20:18
tool and that's really what it's
20:20
designed for
