I'm going on YouTube to prepare to wander out in the woods today and I got a new review
0:25
for you. I'm talking about trauma kit that goes with my bug out bag
0:30
I just got this. It's a new pouch that I've got all filled up with trauma gear and I want to show it
0:37
to you guys and see what you think. So stick around. Alright, so here it is
0:41
This is the VanQuest Fat Pack 5x8 Gen 2. This is the newest line in their fat packs
0:50
I just got this. I've been looking for a pouch to add to my bug out bag and I've looked all over and I
0:58
found some good ones. I found some really expensive ones. I found some really cheap ones
1:02
I found a lot that were just too big and bulky that took up way too much room and I wanted
1:08
something that was a little bit more slim but that would hold the items that I needed
1:15
because I really needed to hold the basics for a trauma kit. So this is what I've come up with
1:21
I'm going to stipulate right now that I am not an EMT
1:25
I have limited first aid training. I've done first aid, wilderness first aid, and some emergency evacuation type training
1:39
but that's about it. So I'm definitely not an EMT by any stretch of the imagination
1:45
But I do try to keep up on some of the latest protocols and I talk to a lot of people who
1:51
do this for a living and I'm always trying to find out what's the best things to take along with me
1:55
So I think I've come up with a pretty decent trauma kit
1:59
It probably could be a little bit more robust but I think it could cover a few basics anyway
2:03
So this is what it is. The great thing about this pouch I think is this clamshell design
2:12
It's really great for just opening up quickly. Just ripping this thing open and getting the contents in a very fast manner
2:23
And then here's everything kind of laid out for you. So what I've got in mine is I've got some quick clots
2:32
I've got a nice big bandage
2:41
That's like an H-style bandage. I've got gauze, alcohol wipes. I've got another H&H type gauze down here
2:51
Of course I've got my tape so I can hold that all together
2:57
And then I've got a needle with some extra tips. That way if someone needs to assist me that has more first aid training than I do they
3:05
can actually use that. I would never use it because I don't have that level of training but I think it's good
3:11
to have in the kit anyway. And then of course on the outside I have tourniquet, shears, and then in this outside pocket, which
3:23
I love this little outside pocket they put on here, I've got my gloves
3:36
So basic items, I think I need to add a few more things but I'm getting there, I'm getting
3:40
close to what I want. The pouch itself, if you're looking for a trauma pouch, I think this is a really great alternative
3:49
It's under $40. Very well made. I can't say enough good things about it
3:55
I really like the design. I love this elastic ladder block they put in the lid
3:59
That way you can add more bandages and smaller items in here and that secures them, holds
4:04
them in so when you do open up the lid not everything falls out. And of course you can tighten that or loosen it with this cord lock
4:12
So that's pretty decent. I'm just going to thread my tape through there
4:19
Then you've got pouches down on the sides right here. Elastic, there's elastic in between the pouches for round items, skinny items
4:35
That's where I've got my extra needles in there. Currently I have nothing down these side pouches
4:45
I couldn't think of anything to put in there that would work
4:50
Then of course you've got your elastic on the front that holds some of the skinnier
4:54
stuff like these alcohol prep pads and this gauze. And then there's a divided pocket back here to hold my bandages and my quick clot
5:10
What's nice about this thing is you just fold this up like this
5:14
You've got tabs to grab to help you pull the zippers open and shut
5:25
And then it secures very nicely with this Velcro closure. Of course you've got a grab handle
5:34
Comes with this red Velcro as an indicator that it's a first aid kit
5:39
Does not come with this patch. You can buy this from Banquest separately
5:43
This is a glow in the dark first aid cross. You've also got a pull tab here so when you're opening it you have something to grab onto
5:54
A couple tabs here in case you want to put like a shoulder strap on this thing or attach
5:59
it a different way to your bag. Of course some MOLLE on the back
6:05
I added a couple tactical tailored malleus clips to attach it to my bag
6:09
But you can use any kind of MOLLE attachment that you want
6:14
Moving to the side you have elastic top and bottom. And then hard webbing in the middle
6:24
And then you can secure your EMT shears this way. It comes with this Velcro closure so it helps secure your shears so they don't fall out
6:32
It's a really nice feature. And then moving to this side, same thing
6:37
You've got elastic top and bottom. Elastic is big enough to actually fit a tourniquet, not a problem
6:42
So I was able to get that tourniquet in there easily. It's not coming to come out but it's in there nice and secure
6:47
I can get it out if I need to. And of course the front pocket like I showed you, great for gloves
7:00
Shove those in there. And then of course you've got your hook and loop field on the front which is also laser
7:08
cut MOLLE in case you want to add another pouch to the front of it. I don't know why you would want to but just in case you're stacking stuff like on a tack
7:15
vest you might be able to do that. Hook and loop field up here for more medical patches
7:22
Got that one of course. 550 cord zipper pulls. Very well made product
7:34
Can't complain at all about this. I really like the size of it
7:38
I like the amount of items it holds, the quick access to them. I just think it's a good option
7:43
And if you haven't checked out VanQuest Gear I would definitely do it. They make some very unique products
7:48
They do a great job. I'm very impressed with their stuff and I'm glad I got this pouch
7:54
So that is it. I think that's all I need to cover with you guys
7:58
I just wanted to show this to you, see what you think. If you have any questions, comments, please leave them below
