Alright guys so I wanted to come out here to the woods and show you some
0:34
Amazon gear that I've picked up over time that I feel is really great for
0:40
bushcraft and that really doesn't break the bank. And I think as you guys all
0:44
know Amazon has a huge variety of items, everything you can imagine. That's
0:51
probably the world's largest shopping experience online and it doesn't disappoint that's for sure. But you really have to look around for specific
1:02
items, you have to do your research because you never know what you're going to get. And there is also a huge amount of overseas manufacturers that have
1:10
flooded Amazon with all sorts of knockoff gear. Some of it's good and some
1:17
of it is horrible. Luckily Amazon has good return policies but nevertheless it's always frustrating to get something that you just wasn't
1:26
expecting. So I'm going to show you some things that I like and I think that'll
1:31
help you with your bushcraft gear. Alright so playing with gear is a lot of
1:37
fun and when you're making your purchase decisions especially in this day and age
1:42
where money is so tight it's really good to get some feedback on different items
1:49
So what I want to do is show you some things that I've picked up that I think
1:52
are pretty cool that I think are good value and that can be used for bushcraft
1:57
and used for other stuff as well. So the first thing I want to look at is this
2:02
bag and this is the Shangri-La tactical sling pack. It's a really interesting bag
2:12
because it is a direct copy of the old Maxpedition Mongo. The Mongo is the
2:22
largest Versa pack that Maxpedition came out with many many years ago I
2:27
think over 13 years ago at least and now this pack is being produced by a company
2:33
out of China called Shangri-La and they make some other cool packs too and when
2:39
I got this thing I was super impressed with the quality of it and how it was
2:44
built. So I'm going to take you through this bag real quick and then I'm going to
2:49
show you some other Amazon gear that I'm keeping inside of it that you can also
2:54
consider. Alright let's get this thing opened up. First thing I want to do is I
2:58
want to get something on the ground because it's super wet out here. So this
3:03
is an Amazon product. This is one thing you'll notice with Amazon gear and some
3:10
of this overseas manufacturers they have some very interesting names for their
3:14
stuff. So this is the Freelaxi tarp and it's really a more of a tent footprint
3:24
than a tarp and it's really well made. Super quality. You can see right here the
3:33
stitching on the corners. You've got spots for tent fly pole you know for the
3:41
poles to your tent and you've got stake out webbing. So I'm going to set this up
3:47
on the ground and put my stuff on top of it that way I have something to keep my
3:52
stuff dry. Alright here's the bag. So it's a knockoff of the Maxpedition
3:59
Mongo. It's pretty close to everything that the Mongo was as far as features
4:05
but a few things are different. Really right off the bat what I noticed when I
4:10
got this is the material is a Cordura type material. Now it may not be authentic
4:16
Cordura but it definitely has the feel of Cordura. It's not a cheap feeling
4:23
nylon. It feels like it's going to have some abrasion resistance to it. The
4:28
sewing on this thing is really good. Nice even stitching all the way around
4:33
Everything's sewn really well. The zipper pulls seem like a 550 cord type
4:39
of cord so they seem to be good. They're not cheap in any way. Zippers look good
4:46
So just overall quality nice and then the features are just awesome. It's a
4:50
great it's a great haversack type bag or day bag. You got this big outside pocket
4:57
here and I've got a lid to my cook set in there so we'll see that in a minute
5:02
Up here there's a pocket on top of the of the pack and of course you've got
5:14
velcro up there for patches and there's some bungee cords so you can tuck like a
5:19
flashlight or a knife inside there. But then this opens up you've got a pocket
5:24
in here and then you've got some elastic loops to organize some gear so I've got
5:31
a lighter, some lip balm, a little Leatherman multi-tool. Now in the back
5:38
there's also this big zipper pocket that is for concealed carry and there is a
5:43
velcro panel sewn into it so you could put a holster in here so that's a nice
5:48
feature if you want to do that. Of course on the outside there is a water bottle pocket and what's nice
6:01
about this water bottle pocket as opposed to the Maxpedition version it's
6:06
bigger. It actually holds a 32 ounce Nalgene with a nesting cup so I've got
6:13
my Nalgene bottle here actually this is the Walmart bottle which is actually a
6:18
great bottle very cheap and inside that nesting I've got my cook kit and this is
6:31
something I just got too. This is of course another interesting name this is
6:37
the Sugun-ing stainless steel 750 milliliter bush pot. It's got a lid, a
6:48
bail, and folding handles. Really nice little pot and of course the awesome
6:53
part of it is under $20 and it is solid so we're gonna cook with that today. Like
7:00
I said you got this big generous water bottle pocket. There is this strap that
7:06
goes over your water bottle that's adjustable so if you want to velcro your
7:10
bottle down to keep it from flopping out you can do that. There is a cord here
7:16
that you can pull tight and cinch up the pocket. The outside over here we've
7:23
got a slip pocket and here I've got another great Amazon find this is BPS
7:30
knives. This is a I believe they're made in the Ukraine if I remember correctly
7:35
and they make a really nice Mora style Scandinavian grind knife with a very
7:43
cool comfortable wood handle in this excellent leather sheath. I've got it
7:50
set mine up for neck carry but everybody I know in my circle of friends has one
7:55
of these little BPS knives. They're inexpensive under $30 I believe. We're right around there and they're just fantastic. They hold an edge really
8:05
well, they're extremely sharp when you get them from the factory, and they're
8:09
just great little carving knives to have in camp. So for bushcraft it's a
8:14
great beginner knife and everybody should have one at that price. Then you
8:20
got a pocket over here and here I've got my ECB Fire Dragon stove. Done reviews of that, used that in other bags and kits
8:35
Love it. Got that on Amazon years ago. Another awesome piece of Amazon gear that I got recently is this WorkPro
8:49
multi-tool. Typically with cheap multi-tools they are just that they're cheap, they fall really short of Leatherman and Gerber and I usually shy
9:00
away from them, but I was reading reviews on this one and I was really impressed
9:07
with what people are saying. They just really love this tool and it is a
9:10
really quality, awesome multi-tool that does not break the bank. You do not have
9:16
to pay Leatherman prices to get a decent tool. What's nice about this one is that
9:22
it is spring-loaded, which I love. That's my favorite type of multi-tools, ones
9:29
that are spring-loaded. And then all the tools are on the outside of the handle
9:34
Very reminiscent of a Leatherman. I think like the charge maybe is like that, but
9:40
you've got a nice saw, screwdriver, Phillips, scissors, which is really awesome. Scissors are always a
9:54
great item to have in camp. Of course a can opener, plain edge knife, a file. Files are
10:10
great, especially when you're working with axes and things or just you know
10:13
crafting stuff. A file is very useful. And then there is of course a bottle opener
10:22
and a flathead screwdriver, a larger flathead. And then also here is a very
10:32
excellent bushcrafting tool and that is an awl. So if you're doing leather craft
10:37
or need to sew something heavy, an awl is really a great tool to have. So
10:46
fantastic multi-tool and it comes in a really nice ballistic nylon sheath that
10:53
is molded so it holds its shape. Just a fantastic piece of equipment to throw in
10:59
your bag. There's that. And then of course you've got on this bag a nice padded
11:08
shoulder pad that is removable. A two inch nylon strap with a buckle, a Fastex
11:20
style buckle that you can take on and off. You've got a little key keeper up
11:26
here. And then these, just like on the Mongo, these pockets in here you can put
11:32
a pocket knife in those. That is also, you have webbing on this side so if you
11:39
want to clip like a radio or add an additional pouch you have that ability. So great features there. And then moving to the inside, front pocket here I've got
11:56
just a little disposable emergency rain poncho. I think I got that at Walmart
12:03
Nice big generous zip pocket in here and I've got my first aid kit and some wipes
12:09
and a flashlight. Another item that I got on Amazon, this is the EZ Lap and this is
12:17
their diamond stone. So if you want a really nice little sharpening stone, I
12:26
love this one because it's diamond on one side but then it's ceramic on the
12:30
other. And I love ceramic for touching up blades and this is just a nice little
12:37
sharpening stone. It comes in this cool little case. Moving to the inside, it's
12:44
got the storm collar on it just like the Maxpedition one did. You can tighten
12:50
that down, cinch that up, and that kind of contains your contents so stuff
12:59
doesn't fall out of your bag and it also keeps things dry a little bit. Here I've
13:07
just got a little nylon pouch that I've got all my fire making stuff. Got some food for
13:17
tonight. Got this really cool mushroom guide and I think you can get this on
13:24
Amazon. I believe my girlfriend got me this and I think she got this on Amazon
13:29
Very cool little pocket guide. So there's a lot of these field guides on
13:38
Amazon. Of course Amazon started as a book company, book selling company, and
13:42
they have tons of literature for sure. And then there is of course two slip
13:52
pockets. One's mesh and then one's nylon, just a straight nylon. I got some gloves
13:57
and a bandana. And that's it. That's all I've got in the bag. Not a ton of stuff
14:02
but it's a fantastic bag and the price point is fantastic. I think right
14:11
now it's going for about $42 if I'm not mistaken, which compared to what the
14:19
Expedition bag is, which is like $150. This thing is budget-friendly and that's
14:29
why I love it. And that's why I love Amazon because you can find so many cool
14:35
budget items that don't break the bank and are actually decent quality if you
14:41
do your research. So I think it's time for some dinner. I need to cook something
14:46
up, so I'm going to use this bush pot that I got and we'll test that out. Super
14:51
windy day today, but temperatures are up and it's sunny finally. I have been
14:56
itching to get out and do some filming outside. Hopefully the weather is going
15:01
to start holding together for us and I can get out and do some more outdoor
15:07
videos. I'm really tired of being cooped up in the apartment and not being able to film
15:16
So there's the Fire Dragon stove, got the ground cleared off a little bit. You can
15:27
get the gels, the fuel gels, on Amazon. Oops
16:04
I really like 750 milliliter pots because you can nest them with an
16:12
algine bottle and they're just the right size for boiling water for ramen
16:18
or for doing dehydrated, freeze-dried meals, rehydrating them. They're just the
16:27
right size. They're not too big, not too small. They're kind of Goldilocks of
16:31
cooking gear for bushcraft. The nice thing about this pot is it does have graduated
16:38
markings on the inside and on the outside in ounces and milliliters. Of
16:44
course it's got this awesome bail which just makes it a more versatile pot. If
16:49
you're going to buy a bushcraft pot, get something with a bail. That way you can
16:53
cook on a stove and over a campfire. The more you start doing bushcraft, you're
17:03
going to probably be doing more open fire cooking and less stove cooking. Let's see
17:08
if I can get this thing lit with the wind. Yep, it's going
17:21
And of course a lid is really important because it helps contain the heat and
17:30
things boil faster. So it's rotini noodles with mushrooms, onions, and celery in a beef flavored gravy. These are really good. Okay, so you ready for
17:41
this? I purchased this in 2007. I have no idea. Okay, it's best by 2013. It's a
17:54
little old, but it's sealed and it's been kept in a Rubbermaid container
18:01
Always dry and temperature controlled area. So I've been using these for years
18:08
and they're always still good. So that and then I'm going to cut up this meat
18:15
stick. This is Country Meats Sweet Annie Brown Smoked Pork Snack Stick in
18:25
smoked flavoring added. So add that to it. A little extra protein
18:45
Here comes that pesky train. Hear it? All right, I'm gonna cut some of this meat stick, all
19:00
this meat stick, and put this in the pouch. It's got the drain hole. Get rid of some of the excess water
19:33
I actually put the noodles in the water to get those to cook a little bit faster
19:39
because the water wasn't coming to a boil because of the wind
19:46
Okay, there it is. It's hot brown
20:05
It's pretty good. So what are some of the things that you found on Amazon that you think are just
20:15
great value? I found some amazing stuff, just not the stuff that's here. There's
20:21
some things back at my place that I use for camping that are just fantastic. So
20:26
leave some comments down below. Let me know some of the things that you're finding. Some of your favorite bushcraft camping items. All right, so you can see
20:37
the Shangri-La bag on me. It rides really nicely on my hip and then with this
20:44
waist belt it really stabilizes the bag. It doesn't shift or move when you're
20:53
hiking. So really a fantastic bag for the money. I mean, $42 for this thing? Holy
21:01
cow. Awesome. I love it. All right guys, I'm gonna get out of here, head home. Thanks for watching the video
