What's up guys? So out of the pond today, you're going to do a little fishing and cook some lunch and
0:43
mess around with some saws and just do a couple different things
0:48
No particular agenda today. It's a really nice day out today and I wanted to get out and just mess around with the fishing
0:55
poles and try my hand of the little fishing and this pond
1:00
I found. Nice little spot. It's back off the roadways. It does get some actions, so there's
1:08
been people in here, but it's pretty quiet today. So I got it all to myself, so I'm lucky
1:15
All right, I'm going to reel my rod in here and then make some lunch
1:30
The I'm going to have some tandoori rice today
2:07
And a little canned chicken. Got the alcohol stove going. Some of my fishing kit
2:18
A poles. And a beautiful pond. All right, so the three saws we're looking at today
2:34
We're going to take a look at the Baco Laplander. This is like the standard bushcraft saw
2:42
Every person who gets into bushcraft ends up getting a Baco to try out
2:47
They're very lightweight. I think they're under around $30. Available on online retailers
2:58
has a replaceable blade. This is a real tree branded saw that it actually is a copy of a silky
3:09
It is considerably heavier and it's pretty cheap, it's like 20 bucks. And then of course
3:16
here's the Corona saw that we're going to take a look at. Now the Corona has a distinct
3:24
advantage already. because it has much longer teeth and it has this really curved blade
3:33
comparatively to the other saws so i think that's interesting all right so the first one i going to i going to use is the uh the bacco Pretty straight blade curved back Teeth are fairly aggressive
3:53
See if I can do this without knocking on the camera. I'm shaking the camera like crazy, I apologize
4:17
I don't have a really good spot to put this thing at. Alright. Alright
4:55
considerable amount of effort to get through this wood. And then here's the little silky knockoff
5:03
This has slightly different teeth. These are more offset. There's kind of like a front and a back row
5:11
Where's the Baco? It really has just a single row of teeth
5:24
And this cuts like a little row of teeth. crap and I knew it when I got it I knew this was not going to be as good as a real
5:31
silky saw it's just it's this wood is really um pulpy and it's binding up
5:40
okay here's the corona now the corona has double row kind of offset teeth
5:55
That curved blade is working so much better than the straight blades of the Baco and the real tree
6:14
Plus, of course, this has a little bit extra length so I can get a little bit more on the pull
6:25
and that is cutting deeper and quicker than the bacco for sure
6:40
And that is cutting deeper and quicker than the bacco for sure
6:52
I use the saw at home quite a bit for pruning trees and shrubs in my yard and then I've also taken it camping
7:02
several times so I know what it does and now like I said this is like I said this is a
7:18
very unscientific test and is it by no means a comprehensive comprehensive test of this saw but if I was to recommend to somebody as a beginner hey I getting into bushcraft I getting into camping I need a saw to throw my pack what do you suggest
7:39
You could save up your money and get a silky, large teeth, and it'd work great. His silks are awesome
7:50
I love silky saws. I have a big boy, 2000. I've used a gong boy. I've used a gomboy
7:57
they're great saws but if you are really on a budget you got 20 bucks and you're in
8:04
lows pick up corona this will far outperform a Baco any day of the week and I know
8:14
there's probably people especially maybe in Europe who use Bacos a lot that's like
8:23
a standard saw for them this is still a better saw than the bacco. Baco is not a bad saw, it's a great saw. And like I said, I've had my Baco for a long time. So the test may not be a hundred percent fair because this Baco has been used and to be used quite a bit
8:45
All right, so there they are all three of them. You can tell there's just a slight difference
8:57
in the El Chippo hunting saw and the Baco as far as length they're pretty close
9:05
and then of course the corona slightly longer but it's got that curve and that
9:12
curve really helps in the pull and the push I really can feel the difference
9:20
is like it seems like it glides through the wood a lot easier I'm pretty biased but
9:25
I really like my corona and the only thing is I don't like it by the corona is I can't
9:32
find a replacement blade for it because I don't know if you can't tell but that's
9:42
slightly bent at the tip I've bent it back but I can't find a replacement blade
9:50
for these so I don't know maybe for 20 bucks I just go buy a new one and forget
9:55
about it but the handles on these things also are so comfortable with that you know
10:00
that kind of dog leg in the back you can get your grip in the back or you can go
10:07
forward you can do it two-handed so a lot of options and the weight and a size
10:15
difference really is not too different from the Baco or the El Chippo hunting saw
10:24
So my suggestion is stay away from these in the stores when you see these during hunting season
10:29
They're gonna be you're gonna find them at Walmart and Meyer and it they suck
10:35
They look like a silky they do not cut like a silky now this looks like it's got a replaceable blade too
10:43
Which is interesting because Maybe I'm almost tempted to buy a silky replacement blade for this size saw and see if I can get it to fit in there
10:53
that would be kind of cool. The handle is really comfortable. I love the handle
11:05
But it just feels very, there's a lot of drag in this thing when you're cutting it
11:11
It doesn cut smoothly through the wood You can really feel it binding up The blades are not cutting the way they supposed to or the teeth I should say but the Baco does considerably better
11:25
than the old hunting one but this one too just like my crone has been used a lot
11:32
and it has a slight bend in the tip you can see that right there I've got a
11:40
I should replace the blade on this one. But it's the lightest of the three
11:51
if you didn't, if I didn't already say that, it is the lightest out of the three saws
11:56
It is still a great saw. I do not, I'm not knocking the Baco. Trust me
12:03
There were people in North America who want a really inexpensive saw
12:09
that they can grab at a hardware store and I'd have to order it online, save themselves a little bit of money and time. Man, the corona is just awesome. Great saw
12:24
One thing I failed to do when testing saws out in the field is that I didn't test on some
12:31
really dried hardwood. And this is a piece that's been sitting in my backyard for some time now
12:38
and I've cut this thing for backyard fire pits and it is very hard wood
12:49
So let's see how this thing does against this. This is probably as big as you'd want to go with this blade
13:08
I'm going to make the and the cut off the cut up
13:17
and the cut off the hard. By comparison here's a silky
13:52
I'm going to be made. I'm going to make the wood to make the hard on the and and
14:08
so the silky is definitely much easier
14:18
Of course it's a longer blade too, but silky's always outperforms
14:35
but Silky's always outperform any handheld saw that I've found
