Hey Wanderers, Prepared Wanderer out in the woods today with another review for you
0:12
This one is going to be BDS Knives, so stick around. I've seen a lot of buzz lately about BDS Knives, so I wanted to check them out and see what
0:21
they're all about because I'm hearing that they're a great price point. Well, I went to Amazon and of course they had them there
0:27
And I could not believe the prices of these knives, it was like, just so dirt cheap
0:34
One was I think about $25, and the other one was about $15
0:38
And that's really in the price range of a Mora. But the difference with BDS Knives is, take a look at these, they come with leather sheaths
0:50
and they have wood handles. So that's what we're going to look at today
0:54
We're going to talk about these a little bit, do a little carving with them, just some
0:59
general wood processing and see how they perform and just kind of talk about how they feel
1:03
in the hand and see what you guys think. So this is what we're going to be looking at today
1:13
So these are the two models that I chose. And there's two big differences between these two
1:24
This is the $15 model. And this definitely looks like a Mora in its profile, blade profile
1:34
But this is not full tang, this is some kind of rat tail tang, skeleton tang, something
1:39
like that. So the metal does not go all the way through the wood handle
1:45
So this is not a knife you're going to be beading on too much. But for general carving and camp chores, it definitely looks good
1:53
Scandi grind, leather sheath, nice leather sheath. Not bad for $15
2:08
The next one is this one. This is the $25 model. This is full tang, wood handles
2:19
Once again that Mora companion profile, Scandi grind, high carbon steel
2:31
And I put a little bit of a sharp edge on the spine myself
2:36
It wasn't too bad, but it needed to be a little bit sharper to strike the fire steel
2:40
So I did that. I just ground that down with a Dremel tool
2:45
Not a big deal. For a $25 knife, I don't mind grinding it a little bit, customizing it myself, making
2:50
it what I want it to be. But when you first pick this one up, it definitely feels good in the hand
2:59
It's got a really nice grip shape to it. Has some weight to it since it's full tang
3:10
You can just definitely feel confident with this one. This one we can beat on a little bit more
3:16
$15 knife, very lightweight. Not much to it. But it also has a pretty decent feel in the hand
3:27
It's a little bit shorter feeling, not as grippy. Doesn't feel in the hand as much
3:34
But for a $15 knife, this would be a great beginner knife. This would be a great knife just to throw in as an extra into your tool kit, into your
3:41
bush bag. Use this for general carving. Definitely able to do some shavings with this
4:37
That Scandi bites nicely. It's a nice sharp blade right out of the box
5:06
Let's try the $15 knife
5:28
These have distinct model numbers, but I don't remember what they are. I'll try to post those down below
5:33
Yeah, even the little blade. Man, it carves nice. This is not soft wood
5:45
This is hard wood. Shaving down really well. Fast curls
6:31
Hair shaving sharp right out of the box. So, overall, I think the $25 knife is the way to go
8:40
The full tang is worth the extra money. The weight and feel of it in my hand is really nice
8:45
It's really weighty in the handle. So it's really a great carving knife
8:53
And since you can baton with it, since it does full tang, I think it just gives you
8:57
a little bit more added security, so why not. I think the $15 knife is nice, you know, maybe for a child, for a beginner
9:06
But I think you're going to quickly outgrow it as a bushcrafter
9:11
You're going to want something a little bit more heavy-duty. And if you really like moras, but want a more traditional look and want a leather sheath
9:20
and the wood handle and everything, this is the way to go. These are made in the Ukraine, so they are not American made
9:28
But I think that's why the price point is so great, because they're coming from the Ukraine
9:33
You can get these on Amazon. I'll put them in my store if you guys are interested in checking them out more
9:39
But all in all, I think it's a great knife. It's definitely worth the money
9:44
And I'm definitely going to be throwing this one in my bag as a spare knife
9:51
And probably even use it as a primary knife once in a while, just because I really enjoy
9:55
how it feels. I enjoy how it carves. It just did all the tasks that I wanted it to do
10:04
And it's very sharp out of the box. And that high carbon steel is going to be easy to sharpen in the field
10:09
It's just going to be an all-around nice knife. I think there's nothing wrong with it
10:15
And the sheath. That sheath is just, you know, for $25, a hand-sewn leather sheath with rivets and a
10:24
belt loop. You can't beat that. It has nice retention. I mean, that's a nice little belt knife right there for $25
10:37
You can't go wrong. And you don't have that plastic look and feel the Mora's
10:43
Just a little bit more traditional. And I think that's what traditional guys like
10:46
You know, they want that more traditional look with the leather and stuff. So this is definitely in their wheelhouse
10:53
Definitely mine. So, great product. Alright, that's it for today. Thanks for watching
