In today's video we're going to look at some emergency survival food options for
0:05
your family and your home when the grid goes down. So stick around
0:17
Alright first thing I wanted to say is that today's video is sponsored by 4
0:21
Patriots. 4 Patriots is a company here in the US that has a fantastic website
0:29
that sells a lot of different preparedness options for you and your
0:34
family. And one of the main things that they sell is emergency survival food. Now
0:41
if you are watching this channel you're probably already tuned in to the whole
0:48
prepper mentality of being ready when an emergency happens. I've talked about it in a
0:55
lot of different videos, showed a lot of different options of things that I do for my family, getting prepared for natural disasters and other grid down
1:05
types of situations. So 4 Patriot reached out to me and wanted me to take a look
1:13
at some of their products and test them out and share with you guys. And when I
1:19
looked at and reviewed their website I was excited because I thought there was
1:24
some really good options. I liked the reviews that I was reading. There's a lot
1:29
of positive reviews. And then just like I said before there's a good depth of
1:34
products that they sell. It's not just survival food there are other things as
1:39
well. And there are a lot of different things that you can look at. There is of
1:43
course the survival food selection which we're going to look at today. There's also
1:48
power and solar options. There's generators and solar panels. There's an EMP bag kit. There's water purification systems. Items for camping and RV. And
2:04
even some gardening and home stuff. A Victory Garden seed vault. Just a lot of
2:11
cool ideas that I think all of us who are into this preparedness thing who
2:20
think this is important have a good resource and one place they can go to to
2:25
get some of this stuff. And I think 4 Patriot's got a lot of things covered in
2:29
here. Now what we're gonna look at today is some stuff that they sent me. And it's
2:34
really interesting. I've got an interesting story about this. So the first thing that arrived from 4 Patriot's, the first shipment that I got
2:43
from them, was this. And this is their cook kit. And it's interesting because
2:50
the day that this arrived happened to coincide with the same day that there
2:56
was a major storm here in Central Ohio. High winds, lots of rain, power out all
3:04
over the state. In my community the power was out everywhere. So I got home
3:11
Everything was off. It was dark. The sun was starting to go down. I was home alone
3:17
that evening. And when I opened up the box, when I got the mail, it was the cook
3:23
kit. And I thought, hey great let's test this out and I'll whip together a dinner
3:28
for myself. Now I wish I'd had the the preparedness food that they were going
3:34
to send me. That came in a shipment later on. But I did get to try this cook kit out. And I'll show you some video from that evening. I actually shot that
3:45
Today is a classic example of emergency preparedness. Simple little thing like a
4:08
power outage can really ruin your night if you don't have some things prepared
4:14
Luckily I have a stove. I have pots. I have pans. I have a headlamp. I have food
4:24
So I was able to prepare something pretty quickly. And it was really awesome
4:30
that this camp cook set just showed up today from Fort Patriot. So nice little
4:36
skillet. Nice little pot. Can't wait to use it more. But really saved the day. And
4:41
just a great example that I could share with you guys. Like hey this happened
4:46
It's no big deal. You know in 10 minutes I had dinner cooked. And I got a delicious
4:51
burrito. Now I've got way too much food to put on that cook kit. Kind of explained what I was
5:03
doing. But the cook kit is kind of a nice option for a family. I mean this
5:10
obviously is not a backpacking cook kit. You're not going to take this out on a
5:15
backpacking trip. But car camping, RV camping is pretty cool. So it's a
5:19
stainless steel cook pot. Pretty heavy duty. Good lid. It's got a nice bail on it
5:29
so you could actually hang this and use this over a fire. And it's big enough for
5:33
a group. I mean a family of three to four. You could easily cook a meal in
5:38
this. Another interesting item that this came with is this kind of kitchen multi tool
5:45
Which has all kinds of stuff on it. Like a spoon. There is actually a grater. There
5:54
are there's a knife. There's a couple other things in here. There's your knife
5:59
So just kind of an interesting item. Obviously like I said this is not
6:06
something you're going to. There's a peeler. So it's not something you're going
6:10
to camp with. Backpack or solo camp like I do. But if you're family camping, RV
6:18
camping, or just you want to put everything together as an emergency kit
6:24
This is an option to give you get you started with some of the kitchen tools
6:28
you need. Now the item that I used that evening was the frying pan. And I really
6:37
liked it. It's a nice deep pan. Stainless steel. Did fine. Handle locks. So very
6:45
basic but sturdy stainless steel set. And this is something I haven't got a
6:52
chance to use yet. But I'm pretty excited about it because I have some experience
6:56
with these types of stoves. This is their wood stove. Comes with a nice stuff sack
7:08
And these kinds of stoves I believe are considered a wood gasifier stove. They
7:14
burn very efficiently in the way that they burn the wood. And basically just
7:21
put that ring up there. And then you've got your support for your pot
7:27
You put your wood down in here. Get that going. And then the way it feeds the air
7:35
through the stove it burns that wood very efficiently. It leaves very little
7:40
ash. It burns it down completely. So it's a very efficient type of stove. So we're
7:48
definitely doing some testing with this. So that's going to be in upcoming videos
7:52
There's some of these food options because I think that is what most people
7:57
are going to be interested in. And that's kind of what the what this video is about. So they have several different options. Different kits. Different
8:06
price points. This is their 72 hour survival food kit. I think it's around
8:11
$30. This food kit is designed for long term food storage. It will last up to 25
8:17
years. Now I can't find an indication of what exactly is in here. So what I want
8:25
to do is I want to go ahead and open this one for you. Because I think it's important to see what you're going to get
8:31
So it is a resealable bag. And the first thing we're going to get is mac and
8:45
cheese. And that is four serving sizes of 260 calories a serving. And the
8:55
directions on this one is remove oxygen absorber. Stir contents into 2 and 3rd
9:04
cups of boiling water. Reduce heat to medium. Cook for 20 minutes. Remove from
9:09
heat and let stand 2-3 minutes. So kind of a standard prepackaged mac and
9:13
cheese. 20 minute cook time it sounds like. Then we have creamy rice and
9:20
vegetable dinner. This is 8 servings at 260 calories a serving. And it's a very
9:30
similar preparation. You add boiling water to this and then you let it sit on
9:38
a medium heat for about 20 minutes stirring until it's done. And then the
9:46
other item is sweet oatmeal. Grammy's sweet oatmeal. And that is 8
9:57
servings, 210 calories per serving. 8 cups of boiling water. Cook 2-3
10:03
minutes. Stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let stand 3 minutes. So you know
10:07
if you have a family of four this is going to at least help you get through a
10:15
few meals. Now the other kit that they sent me I was just kind of blown away
10:21
by because I wasn't expecting this. So this bad boy shows up on my door. This is the 4-week survival food kit. It
10:36
comes in this tote. So you get a tote right and this is everything that is in
10:49
here. We have Alfredo. We have 9 grain cereal. Another 9 grain cereal. I'm just
11:02
gonna put these down on the floor here. Another Alfredo. Powdered milk. Another
11:13
powdered milk. Sunrise oatmeal. That's rolled oats, cane sugar, creamer, coconut
11:25
oil and much other stuff. So oatmeal. Old-fashioned chocolate pudding. So far
11:35
these are items that you I think would do well with with a family with children
11:41
Dinner roll or dinner bell broccoli bake. Mac and cheese. Broccoli bake again. Another mac and cheese. Another sunrise
12:05
oatmeal. So we're getting we're getting two and two of everything. Sweet berry
12:11
cream wheat. Another sweet berry cream wheat. Creamy rice and vegetable dinner
12:21
Two of those. Another chocolate pudding. Creamy rice vegetable dinner. Sunrise
12:30
oatmeal. Okay we got more of those. More mac and cheese. Long grain white rice
12:41
Another long grain white rice. Fireside stew. Another one of those. And another sunrise
12:51
oatmeal. So as you can tell a good variety of stuff. The thing about these
13:01
kind of meal kits is that they are not the end-all to be-all. But for a family
13:11
who is living in an urban area and who may not have access to a lot of space
13:17
You don't have a big freezer so you don't have a lot of meat. You don't have
13:22
a garden. Everything that you get for your family comes from a grocery store
13:28
just because you don't have access to any of those other things like fresh meat or vegetables. These kind of food kits are nice. They you know you're not
13:41
gonna last forever. That's not the point. The point is in a natural disaster where
13:48
you and your family are stuck at home and you cannot go anywhere. And the
13:52
stores are down and electricity is gone. And you have no way of keeping
13:57
refrigerated food. A kit like this is very easy to slide underneath the bed
14:03
put in a closet and then supplement it with canned goods that you already
14:08
should have in your pantry. And then that is going to give you enough calories for
14:14
that family of three to four for four weeks or more depending on how you
14:20
stretch it and how you utilize it. So and then just adding other things like rice
14:26
and beans, dry rice and beans, sugar, flour. Having those kinds of things and
14:32
then some kind of way of cooking this stuff like on a propane stove or even an
14:38
outdoor barbecue grill. That's gonna give you some options for you and your family
14:43
