Have you ever put all of your camping and fishing gear on your boat, motored or sailed across the water and spent a few days camping on an island? Boat-in camping is one of the most awesome Pacific Northwest adventures. In this video we take you through our boat-in camping trip to Jones Island on the west side of the beautiful San Juan Islands. During this trip, we camped, fished, shrimped and crabbed. Our dog Felix went a little nuts for the crab and shrimp. Enjoy!

Alright so we're about ready to go launch the boat at Washington Park here
0:28
because it's time to go go camping go shrimping we're gonna camp at Jones Island and we got some
0:35
gear to do some halibut fishing some coho fishing shrimping crabbing should be a good trip yeah
0:43
just underway here leaving Washington Park headed across Rosario into the islands we're
0:51
We're going to be islanders for a couple days here. Going through the islands
1:06
On our way to Jones Island. Have the family packed in, all the gear loaded down
1:14
Oh yeah, island life. BMW does life, man. Playing with the tide pools You guys like doing that last year
2:35
We're way over there on the other side We got the tent staked down and this Kodiak canvas tent is pretty sweet
2:52
Just got to lay it flat and put all the stakes down and then you can put the main bars through
2:59
the middle here. We've kind of had a couple unfortunate surprises for us here on Jones Island
3:12
the water system will be shut down starting September 9th due to well running dry
3:17
Please conserve. Thank you. It is September 10th, so the water is shut down
3:26
We did bring some gallon jugs and we can go to Deer Harbor and restock and resupply
3:35
you know, get coffee and hot food and stuff like that, because there's also a burn ban
3:42
I know, the state's on fire. It makes sense that you'd put a burn ban over here too
3:48
because, I mean, all the fire resources, you know, are occupied with, you know
3:53
eastern Washington, western Washington. Shoot, when I left, there was a fire like four miles from my house
3:58
So, yeah, priorities, but we were hoping to cook some steaks over a fire tonight
4:07
That's not going to happen. It's always nice to sit around the fire too when you're camping
4:14
But here's the view from the cove on the north side of Jones Island
4:21
It's pretty sweet. Pretty sweet. Million dollar view. Alright, we got our first shrimp pot down just off of Jones Island here
4:35
So hopefully we have some luck We got two more to drop And we be checking in about 45 minutes to an hour John Island over there in the distance
4:56
Hey, what you doing in the morning? You're trying to get this
5:05
All this juicy shrimp? What are you trying to do? You don't want the..
5:20
You better eat that tail. Are you serious? You don't want to eat the tail
5:25
You made us waste the shrimp. It took off the tail. No, the tail
5:30
He's not eating it. That's awful. What do you think, Felix
6:02
Don't get your little tongue too close, dog. You're not gonna have that thing back
6:09
So bad, he's ready to get his nose right in there. Critter
6:15
He has no sense at all. None. Our dog has no sense
6:22
This one might be a... Maybe he should talk to our friend, Steve. Right
6:55
A closer in shrimp spot would be better We pulled up a pot of over a hundred and this one looks to be close to that again
7:07
So maybe 80, 10, 580. So we're halfway to our four person limit
7:14
And we're throwing back these though. These are the females. You can see they got all these eggs in them
7:23
And when you're shrimping later in the year, you're more likely to encounter the females and so you want to toss them back
7:33
It's night number two on Jones Island. Use my anchor buddy system
7:41
I'm hoping when tomorrow morning's low tide, I'm hoping I'll be off the beach, but it's
7:48
possible I'll be on the beach and then I can't go fishing until more tide comes in
7:54
And then it'll be time to leave. That'll be kind of a bummer
7:58
But, hoping that it'll work out. I'm pretty far off the beach here
8:07
We're kind of at high tide right now though. You can kind of see my boat out there
8:15
I got two anchor buddies tied together. and a line on my stern
8:28
Prefer to be bow out, facing out, that way, you know, any kind of wakes or anything like that
8:36
or, you know, won't risk sinking my boat, but hoping this is gonna work out
8:45
We'll see. We'll see you tomorrow. Wow, this whole area has changed so much
8:53
In about 24 hours the wind changed. It brought the smoke in
9:01
What went from just this beautiful kind of serene location, million dollar view, it's just all socked in with smoke
9:11
This is a bit much. We're getting out of here now. We're packing up and packing up everything
