Bogotá, Colombia Plant Tour in the City - Visiting Abuela's Garden - Colombian Lifestyle

Bogotá, Colombia has one of the most unique climate's I've ever traveled to. Sitting at 8600 feet above sea level, with mountains surrounding the city, it is one of the most elevated capital cities in the world. Combine that with the fact that it is very close to the equator, it maintains a very consistent weather pattern all year long, never hitting freezing temperatures, and experiencing bouts of rain on a very regular basis. This allows plant life to thrive. In this city you find an amalgam of all sorts of lush green plants thriving, pockets of rich tropical blooms, as well as dense, hardy ground covers. In this city I show you some of my favorite plantings that I saw in the north part of Bogota. These plantings are along the foundations of office buildings, apartment complexes and sidewalk plantings. After that we take a trip to Abuela's garden down in the south of Bogota. She shows us her rooftop garden, and I translate some of the plant knowledge she shares with me in Spanish. We end the tour by having lunch at a typical Colombian cafe and buying some fruit and vegetables at a classic corner market like you find all over the city.
