Contributions from Alchemy to Chemistry

Alchemy was a proto-scientific tradition that emerged in the Hellenistic world and was practiced throughout the Islamic world and Europe for over a millennium. Alchemists sought to achieve a variety of goals, including the transmutation of base metals into gold, the creation of the philosopher's stone (a legendary substance that was said to have the power of immortality and rejuvenation), and the discovery of the universal elixir.
