0:24
good morning folks this is Pastor Don
0:27
Golden of Calvary Ministries and as I
0:30
tell you every chance we have to get
0:32
together it is just an absolute pleasure
0:36
to be here with you to share the word of
0:39
God from God's holy word this morning
0:43
we're going to be looking at
0:47
prayer uh we've got the July 4th holiday
0:51
coming in just one week where we
0:54
celebrate this nation and the greatness
0:58
of it and there seems to be a lot of
1:01
that use a word great when we talk about
1:05
America what it is and what it was and
1:08
what we want it to become and I would
1:11
like to look at what truly
1:15
will make America great as it was
1:19
conceived to be and I'm convinced that
1:23
if individual Christian people people
1:26
like you and I will get on our knees and
1:29
start to pray for this nation again and
1:32
when I say pray for this nation we pray
1:35
for the fellow next to us other American
1:39
citizens we pray for the children we
1:42
pray for the politicians we pray for all
1:45
those that come together to make this
1:49
place we call America one nation under
1:54
God indivisible with liberty and justice
1:58
for all so what is the key to doing that
2:02
again to making America the great place
2:06
of freedom and the opportunity that it
2:11
was meant to be i think it comes from
2:15
our commitment to return to Almighty God
2:19
and how do we do that we return to
2:22
Almighty God on our knees in prayer
2:28
where do we learn how to pray where do
2:32
we learn how to pray
2:35
jesus in the second year of his ministry
2:40
was in Bethany
2:42
and he was staying at the house as he
2:45
did often of Mary and Martha and Lazarus
2:52
they lived in Bethany you remember
2:55
Lazarus was the one that on his last
2:58
time going to Jerusalem four days before
3:01
he entered Jerusalem triumphantly he
3:05
raised Lazarus from the dead
3:09
we're going to talk about prayer and I
3:13
want you to if you have your Bibles
3:15
there to turn to the book of Luke
3:19
chapter 11 and we're going to begin in
3:23
verse one and this is what Jesus our
3:28
Lord and Savior the Master of our lives
3:32
the Prince of Peace the King of Kings
3:36
the glory of glories the bright morning
3:39
star that wheel in the middle of a wheel
3:43
that Isaiah talked about this is what
3:46
Jesus had to say about prayer
3:51
verse chapter 11 and verse one and it
3:55
came to pass as he was praying they're
3:58
talking about Jesus praying in a certain
4:01
place that certain place being Bethany
4:05
when he ceased when he had finished
4:07
praying one of his disciples said unto
4:10
him "Lord teach us to pray as John also
4:18
taught his disciples."
4:21
Now why would they make a request like
4:24
that because as the Hebrew nation was
4:28
formed
4:30
from the days of Abraham down to the
4:32
days of Moses you don't see individuals
4:37
praying to Almighty God you find in the
4:40
book of Leviticus where priests were
4:43
designated from the tribe of Levi to
4:47
perform the functions of the temple and
4:50
one of those functions was prayer to
4:53
offer up prayers on behalf of the people
4:57
jesus came and he prayed
5:01
john the Baptist his cousin had come
5:04
before him and he had taught his
5:07
disciples to pray each one of them to
5:11
God so that they could capture that
5:14
vision that God was going to give to
5:17
them
5:19
the disciples of Jesus he's in Bethany
5:22
at the home of Mary Martha and Lazarus
5:26
the second year of his ministry and his
5:29
disciples come to him and they see they
5:33
say to him "Lord teach us to pray."
5:40
Verse two
5:42
this is what Jesus tells them about
5:46
prayer he says to his disciples "When
5:50
you pray say Our Father
5:55
who is in heaven
5:59
how holy be thy name thy kingdom come
6:06
thy will be done
6:09
as in heaven so in earth."
6:14
Let's examine this a little bit so that
6:17
we can enrich our own learning
6:20
experience so that we learn how to pray
6:24
better jesus says when you pray say our
6:30
father that word father in the Greek
6:33
language is petar petar and it means the
6:38
one who has literally given life to the
6:43
one requesting the prayer notice too
6:47
that it says our father it doesn't say
6:50
my father it doesn't say your father it
6:54
doesn't say his father or her father it
6:57
says our father god whom we worship the
7:02
one true God of all creation the one
7:06
true God giving us life the breath of
7:09
life the one who is our maker
7:13
he is our father loves all of us equally
7:20
blesses us all of us equally with the
7:24
blessing of his salvation
7:27
blesses all of us equally with the mercy
7:32
that brings salvation to us blesses all
7:36
of us equally
7:39
with
7:41
the righteousness
7:43
and the holiness that can only be given
7:47
by God's grace what is grace love that
7:52
is given to those who have done nothing
7:55
to deserve it god's grace God's mercy
8:00
God's righteousness God's sanctification
8:03
God's holiness that flows upon us in the
8:07
very giving of God's salvation
8:12
this is the Greek Petar
8:16
who art in heaven yes
8:20
god is in heaven and where is heaven
8:24
heaven is in the hearts and in the minds
8:29
and in the souls of men mankind that
8:34
believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as
8:38
their personal savior who is this Lord
8:42
Jesus the Christ he is the son of the
8:45
living God he is the son of the living
8:48
God who is the one who has come to seek
8:52
us and to save us from our sins that
8:56
which we cannot do for ourselves who is
8:59
this son of the only the only begotten
9:03
son of the living God he is the one who
9:06
went to the cross and died for our sins
9:09
that we might know
9:12
salvation by God's mercy by God's grace
9:16
by God's righteousness by God's giving
9:20
of salvation
9:22
upon us who art in heaven how holy be
9:28
thy name
9:31
if you go to that book of Leviticus that
9:33
we mentioned a few minutes ago
9:36
and you go to Leviticus chapter 19 and
9:40
verse two
9:42
it says therein
9:44
Leviticus 19 and2
9:47
you shall be holy for I the Lord your
9:53
God am holy holy we are to be holy
9:58
because we serve a living and holy God
10:03
if you look again at the book of
10:04
Leviticus chapter 11 and verse 44
10:10
he says there God talking through his
10:14
prophet and the leader of the Hebrew
10:16
people in the desert in the wilderness
10:20
god says to them "For I am the Lord your
10:24
God." What an assurance that is our
10:27
father remember that term our father god
10:31
said to the Hebrew people all those
10:34
years ago for I am the Lord your God you
10:38
shall therefore sanctify yourselves what
10:42
does it mean to sanctify it means to
10:44
make holy to make righteous to make
10:48
ourselves by the lives that we live by
10:51
the minds we have by the very thoughts
10:55
that we have and by the words we say the
10:58
total concept of the lives that we live
11:02
we are to make ourselves holy sanctify
11:06
ourselves
11:07
and you shall be holy
11:10
for I am holy says the Lord God
11:17
what does that word holy mean there in
11:20
the Hebrew
11:22
the word is kados
11:26
and what it means is free from all
11:29
imperfections
11:31
free from all sin or taint of any
11:36
imperfection
11:38
it means to completely
11:40
completely perfect in every way
11:44
spiritually
11:46
this is the God whom we serve this is
11:49
the God who gave us the Christ the son
11:52
of the living God the only begotten and
11:56
all who should believe should not perish
12:00
but have life eternal
12:03
isaiah chapter se chapter 7 the great
12:06
prophet Isaiah says
12:09
"At that day shall a man look at his
12:14
maker
12:16
and his eyes shall have respect for
12:19
listen to this the holy the holy one of
12:24
Israel."
12:27
When a man comes in faith before
12:29
almighty God to receive the salvation of
12:33
God his prayer is very simple he
12:37
acknowledges his father he acknowledges
12:41
the holiness of the father
12:45
and he simply says "Oh Lord my God have
12:49
mercy on a sinner such as me."
12:55
in that simple prayer
12:58
and God imparts salvation because
13:01
salvation is of God it is the free gift
13:06
of God through his son Jesus the Christ
13:11
who was the son of the living God
13:16
let's read on
13:19
thy kingdom come
13:22
thy will be done as in heaven so in
13:27
earth there's a lot going on in the
13:30
politics of the world there's a war
13:33
going on in the Middle East and that has
13:35
taken different ramifications
13:38
and moved in different places from Gaza
13:41
and Hamas to Hezbollah to Taliban down
13:45
to the Houthis up into Iran itself
13:50
that led to the most recent actions the
13:53
bombings of the nuclear reactive
13:56
facilities that they were producing
13:59
enriched uranium from right there in
14:02
Iran
14:04
bombs were dropped and they claimed that
14:06
it was destroyed
14:09
the problem in all this yes I concede
14:14
that all these things appeared to be
14:16
necessary actions but if only people
14:20
would seek God first in their lives if
14:23
only they would other in unison
14:27
and in union of spirit this simple
14:31
prayer our father our father not just
14:35
ours in America alone but ours in Israel
14:38
ours in Iran where you have Christian
14:41
ours around the world if only we would
14:45
utter this prayer more often our father
14:49
who is in heaven how holy is thy name
14:53
you are the center and the picture and
14:55
the hope of all peace of all right doing
14:59
in the world thy kingdom come
15:03
what is God's kingdom god's kingdom is
15:08
one of the spirit
15:11
and it entails the mind the thoughts the
15:14
words and then the very actions that we
15:17
live it is a spiritual kingdom both
15:22
internal and external
15:25
if only the world would come together in
15:28
this simple prayer
15:30
thy will be done in heaven
15:33
and so in earth we would not have to
15:37
drop 35,000 bombs 35,000 pound bombs we
15:44
would not have to destroy uh uranium
15:48
enrichment facilities because there
15:50
would be no more thought of war one man
15:54
against another there would be no hatred
15:57
one man against another there would be
16:00
no more bitterness
16:03
there would not be any more rumors of
16:05
war and there would not be any wars
16:11
and forgive us our sins oh if only we
16:15
would cleanse ourselves
16:18
as a people as a nation and as a world
16:23
if only we would cleanse ourselves from
16:26
our sins and bring in a common
16:28
understanding of God's peace into all of
16:32
us
16:35
for we also forgive everyone that is
16:38
indebted to us those who have sinned
16:41
against us
16:43
forgiveness is an important part in fact
16:47
it is a critical part
16:50
of receiving the blessing of God's
16:53
salvation
16:54
forgiveness
16:57
remember
17:01
that situation
17:05
in Luke chapter 18
17:10
and verse 10
17:13
where you have
17:15
a tax collector who is despised he was
17:19
called the publican
17:22
and he is in the temple praying
17:25
and he says "Lord God
17:29
have mercy on a sinner such as me."
17:36
And the priest who stood nearby
17:40
said "It's a good thing that I am not a
17:44
sinner like him." You see
17:46
self-righteousness
17:48
was a dividing wall between the two and
17:51
that priest who should have been there
17:54
on the floor play praying with that
17:56
sinner would not move because of his
18:00
feeling of self-righteousness
18:05
we need to forgive others as God has
18:09
forgiven us and if we practice
18:13
forgiveness
18:14
then we will bring friendships
18:18
we will bring friendships
18:20
and when friendships we will bring those
18:23
who can love us
18:26
as we are told to love them
18:29
jesus said "By this you will know that
18:32
you are disciples of mine that you love
18:35
one another as I have loved you
18:43
going down to verse 9 there in chapter
18:45
11
18:47
Jesus says therein and these are words
18:49
and these are the words of Jesus not the
18:52
words of this old preacher sitting here
18:55
but Jesus says in verse 9 "And I say
18:59
unto you ask and it shall be given you
19:05
seek and you shall find knock and it
19:10
shall be open to you
19:14
for everyone that asks receives
19:17
and he that seeks finds and to him that
19:21
knocks it shall be opened
19:26
and he closes that in verse 13 by saying
19:30
you don't think these things are
19:32
possible
19:34
he says in verse 13 "If ye then being
19:38
evil
19:40
know how to give good gifts to your
19:43
children
19:44
how much more shall your heavenly Father
19:48
give
19:50
the Holy Spirit to them that ask him
19:56
with the coming Fourth of July when we
19:58
celebrate 250 years of this nation
20:04
and it's the hope and expression for
20:07
freedom not only here in America but
20:10
around the world as a Christian
20:13
community I'm calling to all of you to
20:17
pray for this nation
20:22
pray to almighty God that the blessing
20:26
of salvation would reach all those
20:31
across America that there would be a
20:34
great revival that there would be called
20:37
again calling for this nation to be a
20:42
nation under God a nation whom in God we
20:46
trust a nation in whom our first hope is
20:52
to Almighty God
20:55
and then to love our families and to
20:59
love our neighbors as Jesus commanded us
21:03
to love why
21:06
because God is a holy God and God calls
21:11
us to holiness and God calls us to
21:15
righteousness
21:17
in his holy name
21:22
there was a man named Matthew
21:28
just so happens that Matthew was a
21:30
publican he was a tax collector he was
21:34
one of those who was much despised in
21:37
his day and time he was seen as one who
21:41
was untouchable outside any possibility
21:45
of association with the religious order
21:48
of the day
21:51
but there came a time when Jesus
21:54
received the salvation
21:56
of Jesus the Christ
22:01
and he gives a second writing of the
22:06
Lord's prayer
22:08
and these again are the words of Jesus
22:12
and he tells us that prayer is a very
22:16
personal thing matthew chapter 6 and
22:21
beginning in verse 6 he says "But thou
22:26
when thou prayest enter into thy closet
22:31
just you and God
22:34
and when you have shut the door put all
22:38
the rest of the world and all the rest
22:40
of your concerns away
22:43
and when thou hast shut thy door pray to
22:47
thou thy father who is in secret and
22:53
your father who sees in secret shall
22:57
reward you openly
23:00
what did Jesus say ask and it shall be
23:04
given you seek and you shall find
23:10
knock and the door shall be open to you
23:14
and everyone that asks receives and he
23:17
that seeks finds and to him that knocks
23:22
it shall be opened
23:26
prayer
23:27
prayer is the means of celebrating the
23:31
time that this country has been in a
23:35
nation a nation under God and I still
23:38
believe that America is a nation under
23:42
God i still believe that in this country
23:46
we are a nation whom in God we trust i
23:50
still believe that this is a nation of
23:53
religious freedom
23:55
my first ancestor Samuel K golden
24:00
came to this country in the year 1710
24:05
he landed at the port of Philadelphia in
24:09
the northeast America
24:12
near to
24:14
a a town
24:17
where he later migrated to called Oi in
24:21
the Holy Valley of Pennsylvania
24:25
he came here with his seven children and
24:29
his wife because he wanted to pursue
24:33
religious freedom you see he was a
24:36
minister he had been trained in the
24:39
schools of the day in Germany and in
24:42
northern Italy and in Switzerland
24:46
and he came to this country because he
24:49
believed that here he could find a
24:53
religious freedom that he wanted for he
24:57
and his children and his wife he wanted
25:01
to have the everyday possibility
25:05
of serving the will of God in his life
25:10
i come to you today and I say to you the
25:14
same thing
25:16
that the whole possibility of America is
25:20
just in its infancy
25:24
it can become so much more but it has to
25:28
become more by the giving of people in
25:33
their faith
25:36
and because of God moving them to give
25:40
the only way that's going to happen is
25:42
by the power of prayer
25:46
after this manner therefore pray ye
25:51
jesus says in the book of Matthew "Our
25:54
Father which art in heaven hallowed be
25:58
thy name thy kingdom come thy will be
26:03
done in earth as it is in heaven."
26:08
You see that prayer that we started with
26:10
in the book of Luke is given here by
26:15
Matthew and he says those same things to
26:19
us the whole hope of mankind and what we
26:25
need
26:26
lies in our faith in Almighty God
26:33
so I call upon you
26:37
jesus prayed for us in the great
26:39
intercessory prayer in John chap 17
26:45
and he said as he hung on the cross in
26:48
the book of Luke chap 23 and verse 34
26:53
the very first words he spoke from the
26:56
cross he said "Father forgive them for
27:01
they know not what they do."
27:05
If you have not yet accepted Jesus the
27:08
Christ as your Lord and Savior in this
27:13
closing seconds that we have left in
27:16
this broadcast I would encourage you the
27:20
forgiveness has already been provided
27:23
jesus stated it from the cross
27:27
all you have to do is say
27:31
"Father
27:32
forgive me of my sins
27:36
i call upon your holy name to make me
27:41
that child of God so that I can live a
27:46
right and holy life." God bless you god
27:51
bless America
27:53
amen
