Bill Russell Defense

Bill Russell is one the greatest defenders to step foot on the hardwood. He revolutionized how defense was played. Instead of just putting his hands up to contest shots, he jumped to block them. Blocks weren’t recorded back in the 50s and 60s, but I would assume that he averaged more than 3 a game. And here’s a lesson from him on how to be a better defender: “The idea is not to block every shot. The idea is to make your opponent believe that you might block every shot.”
