You know, one of the best parts of traveling is stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things
0:07
Let me tell you, my very first meal in Istanbul was at this restaurant, and I unknowingly had an intestine sandwich
0:17
which was actually quite tasty if you don't think about what you're eating
0:22
The best way to start your day in Istanbul is with a delicious Turkish coffee
0:26
But actually, you can have them any time of day or night
0:31
The coffee master. Turkish coffee, very good. Yeah, Turkish coffee. Oh, look at that
0:52
Oh, look at that. Beautiful Turkish coffee. All right. Thank you. All right
1:00
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you. Thank you. All right, so I just had a Turkish coffee and I was making a video of the guy as he made it
1:17
The Turkish coffee, as I've said before, it's very different than our coffee
1:23
It's very finely ground, very, very powdery. and they put the grind straight into the pot and they boil it
1:33
They get it just as it's about to boil. Then they take it off of the fire
1:37
They're constantly steering it up. Then you let the grind settle to the bottom and you drink it
1:45
And when you get to the bottom, you're going to have like a little bit of mud at the bottom because coffee is not filtered out
1:51
So it's very unique. And if you want sugar, you have to order sugar before
1:54
So they put the sugar in as they're cooking, the coffee is not afterwards
2:00
So it's a little different, but it's a very unique taste. I like it, not everybody likes it
2:05
but I think when you're in Turkey, you have to try a Turkish coffee
2:10
Right, so I finished my coffee, and now I want to show you the bottom
2:15
Can you see all the coffee grinds in there that are left over
2:21
So you drink it down to the bottom, and then you stop when you get a little bit of mud in there
2:26
And I guess something, places, they do like a fortune telling. They read your coffee grinds to see what your fortune's going to be
2:34
Kind of like reading tea leaves, I suppose. But anyway, Turkish coffee, bottom of your cup
2:39
All right, so we're having a little Turkish breakfast in our neighborhood
2:54
And look, we got these beautiful vegetables. cucumber, tomatoes, some cheese, olives, some bordec
3:02
we have a chai and a Turkish coffee, bread. And this is Minaman and it is scrambled eggs
3:12
It's like scrambled eggs. It has cheese in it. And this is really good. It is like scrambled eggs with salsa, if you will
3:20
So it is quite delicious. And you just kind of take it, scoop it up
3:26
Stick it on your bread. And this is really good. Mmm, mm-hmm
3:36
Mm-hmm, mm-mm. It's one of the best things I've had in turkey
3:43
To be quite honest, we just a little spicy. I mean, it did really, really good
3:50
Nice turkey's breakfast. Good an appetite. Oh yeah, that's a lot of
4:08
All right, we got our Lama Kuhl fresh out of the stone oven
4:16
I'm gonna put a little bit of, whatever this is, parsley maybe
4:22
and squirt some lemon on there. We got the spicy kind. So good, so good. Good
4:33
Good and appetit. All right, good. A little bit of yogurt to drink See that See that
4:57
And the yogurt is like a perfect drink. If you're drinking something spicy
5:02
it helps cut the spice down. But yeah, there you go. Really good
5:07
Lama Kuh. Okay, we also got some pita. Look at that. Also fresh out of it
5:11
of the oven. Nice melted cheese on there. This is our favorite neighborhood bakery
5:28
with a friendly staff that always made us feel welcome. You know, turkey isn't just baklava and pita
5:35
There's also a variety of cakes, cookies, pastries, and breads to satisfy your craving for, carbs
5:45
All right, so this is what they call the cookie bomb. And I guess it's a cookie filled with chocolate
5:52
I don't know if it's, I don't know, we'll see. It's like a inside chocolate chip cookie with a big chocolate chip
6:04
It didn't explode. But it is kind of like a giant chocolate chip
6:11
tasty very sweet but um pretty good i wish i had a nice cup of coffee to go with it but i think
6:24
they're out of coffee or out of tea the best thing we do is a bottle of water so anyway so
6:30
this is i guess a traditional dessert in istanbul the cookie bomb got to try one when you're here
6:38
Okay, the best donor and cadiqoid. We got donor with rice and looked excellent
6:45
And she was slicing it off the spit. We had some delicious lentil soup
6:50
We've got some french fries, salad. Fides drink it some. Iran, I think it's called a yogurt drink. Alright
7:05
Looks delicious, looks great. It looks great. Smells great. Bon Appetit. Okay, so we stopped at this pharmacy
7:15
We were looking for some usurin, lotion, and the people at the pharmacy were really nice
7:25
They fit over backwards to help us and to find some stuff that we needed
7:30
And then when we left, they gave us a list of their recommended places
7:36
places to visit and on the list was this place called espresso lab. It's kind of a logo chain
7:42
I guess. We've seen several of them before. I haven't been in one, but we came in this one and
7:48
it's really nice. They make, you know, traditional like coffee like I guess Starbucks type coffee
7:54
We also have like the croissants and things like that. They have their own bakeries. You can go in
7:59
and you can see where they're baking their own stuff. And also they make like the traditional Turkish
8:06
coffee and the chai, Turkish tea. So if you're looking for a place to get an espresso, latte, cappuccino, or a Turkish coffee
8:19
or a chai, then check out the espresso lab. Very friendly and good service
8:24
All right, so here in our neighborhood, our region of Caddy Koi, they're supposed to have
8:29
the best ice cream. We walked by yesterday, and this shop, the line was really long
8:36
That was Sunday. Today on Monday, they're still a line but not quite as many people. So we have pistachio and coffee. I really like the crunched up peanuts on top. Quite good
8:52
All right. It's good ice cream. Okay, so we have the Iskender, um, donor
9:12
And, um, we're familiar of donor kebab. Duna. And we have the donor meat, and it's on top of bread, and it put the tomato sauce on it
9:21
and then they pour hot butter over the top. And then you have your yogurt on the side with the pepper and tomato
9:28
So different way to eat Duna Let see That good One apache
9:39
One appetite. All right, Betty, so what are we eating for breakfast
10:04
For breakfast today, we're having a cheese burrek and also half cheese
10:10
and half potato barrette that's been cut up a nice bite-sized pizza and we're also having
10:19
finished pita with cheese inside and it's delicious and large cups of try tea and it's
10:29
okay and it's right down the street from our air bamb we just found it yesterday and so we're
10:36
excited that um we have a good pita place to try delicious delicious
10:40
All right, sounds great. Hello, everyone. So we are about to have some baklava and ice cream here at this place
10:55
We would do this place at another location, and it was excellent cake in baklaba
11:02
And we've been reading about baklava with ice cream. So we're pretty excited to try that
11:08
And we're also getting a chai, the traditional tea, and a Turkish coffee
11:15
Can't wait. So, right, so we have our baklava. It looks really good
11:20
We've got some ice cream, some pistachio, and cream. And we have a nice chai there, and I have a traditional Turkish coffee
11:30
So it kind of looks like an espresso, but it's made a little bit differently
11:34
It's not cooked in like a pressurized, like an espresso. but it's cooked in a little pot and the grounds the coffee is like really thinly ground up
11:44
finely ground up and they actually just boil the coffee grounds into the water so at the bottom
11:50
of your cup there's going to be some mud some coffee grinds but it's really good really
11:56
powerful coffee and now we get to eat our baklaba. All right, so we have a dinner guest this evening and we walked down our neighborhood just down the road and we got this little place that makes homemade bento noodles and they are outstanding
12:23
We were heard two days ago I think and wanted to come back so these noodles are really good
12:28
We had chicken the other night and now we got beef. They've got some kimpob and we got the kimchi kimbob the other night we had beef and
12:38
So yeah, this has been a real fine in our neighborhood to come here and get these bento noodles
12:45
They're really quite delicious and then you never know who's going to join you for dinner. All right, so we've got these things
12:52
They're like donut holes. I don't know how else to describe them. Little pistachio powder on them and see them around people selling them
13:00
So the service might be terrible, but generally they're pretty tasty snack
13:08
Ketchi barbecue. It's supposed to be the best burgers in this temple
13:14
If you've had your fill of traditional Turkish food and you need something different
13:19
you can get a great burger and fries from Ketchi barbecue. It was delicious and really hit the spot
13:26
Oh, my, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
13:31
Oh my man! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, what's shirny
13:41
My name is Lee
13:56
My name is Ilhan. Yes. No. No. Pist, piced. Ah, yes. Okay, one minute, one minute
14:05
Okay, one minute. Extra for you, okay? Ah, okay. Okay, all right
14:10
Bye bye. Okay so we are at Bitt Hope I pronouncing that right in the middle of Istanbul uh not far from the grand bazaar i think
14:27
not too far from the grand bazaar so a very busy part of part of town but this meal was fantastic
14:34
our tour guide when we first got here recommended this restaurant to us so this is the second time
14:41
we've been here so it's a wednesday evening so it wasn't too busy so
14:45
night, but the service was fantastic, and our food was really good. The dish I had was the same
14:54
name as the restaurant, Bid Liesli, the garlic dish with lamb. It takes about 30, 35 minutes to cook
15:02
Well worth the weight, that was absolutely delicious. Fetti had chicken kebabs. They were
15:07
also fantastic. You could tell they were cooked on the grill. Really good. We had an appetizer
15:14
An appetizer, it's called like a meatball or something like that, but it doesn't have any meat in it
15:22
But we didn't really care for that too much. But I mean, it was okay, but it wasn't the best thing we had
15:27
But they give you free appetizers, which were really good, like some sort of vegetable dip
15:31
and they gave us some sort of sauteed onions. Those were very tasty, and then they gave us lots of chai to drink
15:40
So very good. If you're in Istanbul, in the middle of the same
15:44
by the bazaar come to Pidlisi and you will not be disappointed it was an excellent meal
15:50
right so this is the dish of canufe canape not really sure but it's kind of like a
15:59
dessert dish it's sweet has pistachio and roasted coconut but it has like cheese in the middle
16:09
so it's not too sweet so it's a good balance of sweet and
16:14
flavor i guess and uh let's see if we get some of this see the cheese pulling there
16:26
that's very good just when you think it's a little too sweet sweetness goes away and you get that
16:36
cheesy taste it's a really really good balance very nice dish i wish i knew exactly what it's called
16:44
We'll put it in them screen, but very tasty, very delicious. Right around the corner from our Airbnb was our favorite fish restaurant
16:54
It's not a fancy place, but it offers delicious fresh fish at a great price
17:00
They start you off with the free appetizer of fresh bread and dips. Be sure to order a fresh salad and the delicious calamari as a starter
17:09
We tried several different fish dishes and all were incredibly delicious. To top it off, the meal ends with a free dessert and a hot glass of chai
17:29
All right, so this is really good. Everything we got. He took me inside
17:35
They have like a little bar. He pointed some stuff out and told me what it was. He said he bring us like some sample dishes
17:41
All right. So we have our, I guess, appetizer plates, and we have some hummus, some grapeies. This is kind of like the cold dish
17:50
And then we have some different soups, vegetable soup. That is lambshank
18:02
I don't know. It all looks really good. Fantastic. It's really good. And then we got a kebab
18:08
Don't know. We got a kebab coming or a donor. And can't wait to try that
18:14
Alright, so we have our Cape up donor wrapped up in pita
18:23
Looks really good. All the appetizers were outstanding. Alright. After dinner, chai
18:38
Of course, no trip to Istanbul is complete without up some locum, otherwise known as Turkish delight, to pack into your suitcase for the trip home
