Hey guys, it's Caitlin and welcome to another video
0:02
Today I'm going to be sharing my top 5 skin and acne care tips for the day with you all
0:07
I have gotten a few requests to do a skin care routine and that video will be coming to you all shortly
0:14
But before I post that, I do want to just say that I feel like a lot of skin care routines are just listing a lot of products that people use
0:23
And while what you put on your face is important, I do think that there are tips that you can do to improve your skin health and overall health
0:32
before you go and spend a lot of money on a specific product that may not work for you in the end
0:37
So I thought I would just do this quick little video and share my personal experiences with you all
0:44
I have been blessed to have never had terrible acne where I would need to see a doctor for it
0:50
However, I have always had issues with acne and I think everyone in my family is pretty acne prone
0:56
And as far as I can remember, I've always had like a pimple on my face and it went about pretty bad
1:02
My problem areas were definitely my T-bone and I would get bumps all across my forehead as well
1:09
So I had pimples here and there towards the end of grade school and towards the end of high school and my first few years of college is when I would say my acne got pretty bad
1:18
It was something that never inhibited me from going out and I never felt incredibly self-conscious about it to the point where I didn't want to have social life
1:25
But I didn't feel the best about it and I decided that I needed to actually do things in order to try to improve my skin
1:32
I would cycle through a variety of different acne products but none of them ever seemed to really work for me in the long term
1:39
So I decided that I would have to look towards my lifestyle and make changes in that to see if that would make more of a difference
1:46
So my first two tips are pretty simple but I think that they need to be said
1:51
So the first one is just stop touching your face. For me, I didn't even realize how much I actually touched my face during the day
2:00
And every time you touch your face, you're just putting more dirt on your skin and allowing stuff to smear in your pores
2:05
And so I made a conscious effort to try to reduce that and my skin did improve some
2:10
My second tip is to practice with hygiene. Now I'm not saying that everyone's acne is really gross and dirty or anything like that at all
2:18
But you can practice better hygiene tips that will help reduce your acne
2:24
So personally for me, that was establishing a skincare routine and sticking to it
2:29
Rigidly not sticking, washing my face at all. And then also just changing my pillowcase more frequently
2:35
I've changed it once a week now and that really works for me. So my final three tips are the things that most dramatically affected my acne and improved my skin health overall
2:45
And I just want to go in chronological order because these are the steps that I took
2:49
But you can do these all at the same time or you can do them in any order you like
2:53
It really doesn't matter. So the first thing I did that I noticed improved my skin was starting to actually exercise
3:00
When you exercise, you're obviously sweating and it does help clear up your pores even though you feel kind of gross in the moment
3:07
But I noticed that my acne did get a lot better after I was just living a healthier lifestyle
3:12
So after that, I started to actually drink more water. And this helped dramatically
3:19
I don't think you can realize how under hydrated they are. But now I drink between two and three liters of water per day
3:27
And it may seem like a lot but really that's what you should be drinking in a day
3:31
And it's really important to drink more water and exercise more. I noticed that my skin is just so much healthier and I felt so much better too
3:39
But I still had some little patchy bumps that were on my forehead
3:43
They weren't really as red as before but they didn't really disappear. Then finally my final tip which I think is the most important one and needs to be in any way is to go vegan
3:53
I was what you would say plant based throughout this whole time when I started to exercise and drink more water
4:00
But my acne didn't finally disappear until I eliminated dairy products from my life
4:06
And I really didn't think that dairy was heading down to an effect on my skin
4:11
But afterwards about a month or so when the detox period had kind of ended and all of the icky animal products were out of my system
4:20
I noticed that my skin was so much better. And now I still get an occasional pimple here and there
4:27
But really it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be. Now I'm not saying you can just go vegan automatically
4:33
Your acne is going to disappear. I eat a high carb low fat vegan diet
4:37
And I do think you can attract and take lower health health but overall skin health
4:42
But I think that the biggest thing for me health health was to avoid processed oils
4:47
Oil is not a health food even though people want to think that it is
4:52
It just requires you to be the original plant source. So you're getting all the fats but you're not getting any of the nutrients or health benefits with it
4:59
I definitely noticed that when I eat food that has more oil in them I do tend to break out more
5:05
Even if I just eat like one juicy meal I do notice that my skin just feels a lot more oily and dirty
5:13
But when I eat food that has a higher fat content in their whole form like melted avocados I don't really experience that at all
5:20
However I do think that you need to continue to eliminate oil from your diet. When I go out to eat at a restaurant I don't ask for no oil in my food
5:27
I still avoid oil like it's a plague. I still eat food that contains oil in it like granola on an all day basis
5:34
And I do notice when I eat out more or eat more oil my skin gets worse and it does get better when I eliminate it
5:41
However I'm not going to continue to cut those foods out of my diet because I enjoy them
5:45
And at the end of the day a pimple is just a pimple
5:49
Sometimes I think people can be a little too obsessed about their skin health
5:53
And it's really important to remember that just because you heal your acne and your skin becomes a lot healthier
5:59
doesn't mean that you're never going to get a pimple again in your life
6:03
Like everyone else my body is constantly changing and my hormone levels are rising and falling and changing according to the time of the month or whatever
6:12
And so some things are better than others. Well I can be okay with that
6:17
I think that everyone should accept the fact that some people are more genetically gifted and have cleaner skin
6:23
Whereas some people do have acne problems. And even if you adopt a high carb low fat vegan diet and you exercise and you drink so much water
6:31
some of it is hormonal and it is very hard to control
6:35
But that doesn't make you less of a person. It doesn't lower your self worth or your beauty
6:40
Like you just have acne. And I would not be friends with someone because they have acne
6:46
And anyone who does have acne because of your acne is really not worth your time
6:50
Because in reality your skin is your outer shell and it doesn't relate to who you are as a person at all
6:56
I just think it's so stupid. And yes like it makes sense to worry about your acne and to care about your physical appearance
7:04
But at the end of the day you shouldn't let that stop you from enjoying your life and going out and just following your happiness
7:11
But those are my 5 tips that really helped Madison improve my skin
7:15
And I thought I would share them all with you. I will be doing a finger routine and that will be coming soon
7:20
I will have it linked in the description of the video once that video gets published
7:25
If you are interested in watching it. But I hope you guys have a lovely day
7:29
And I thank you all so much for watching and I will talk to you later. Bye
