We're getting calls from people all over the country that are considering moving or relocating
1:20
to the Tampa Bay area. However, you got to get hold of this, whether that's text, email, phone call, or instant message
1:28
Please feel free. We've got your back. Now, I want to talk about this moving thing
1:32
Now, in the last 13 years, my wife and I have moved 13 times
1:37
Yes, 13 times. I know it sounds crazy. And we've been in Tampa for over the last three years
1:43
But we moved a lot. At the beginning of our relationship, we were trying to figure out what we wanted to do
1:47
and where we wanted to live. And we've never been afraid to take a risk
1:51
So we've moved a ton. And the reason I share that with you is because we've learned a lot, a lot of what not to
1:58
do when moving and a lot of what to do to make your move a lot easier, a lot more cost-effective
2:05
And we want to share those tips with you guys today. The main reason is we want to eliminate all that pain and energy that goes into moving
2:14
And being in real estate for the last nine years, the one thing I know is the bottom
2:19
line is moving sucks, right? Everybody loves to move to a new place, a new house
2:24
They love all the feels that it gives them. But the actual act of moving, I'm sorry, and I hate to use strong language, but it sucks
2:32
big time. So I'm going to get into my top seven ways to save money and eliminate stress when you're moving
2:39
And the first one is furniture. This is something that I hadn't really considered
2:43
The first few times we moved, we were younger and we didn't have a whole lot. But as you get older and more mature or your family grows, we got three kids now
2:52
Three kids comes with a lot of stuff. We've got three rooms that all have furniture outside of our bedrooms
2:58
We've got living rooms, kitchens, an outdoor dining pad. There's so much stuff
3:02
When you own a home, it just accumulates. And what happens is when you go to move, you really start quickly to evaluate whether you
3:09
need something or you want it. And can I just replace it when I get there
3:14
And these are considerations that definitely need to be taken before you take that step
3:19
And when it comes to furniture, what I found is by working with, I have some great investment
3:23
partners who have bought Airbnbs. And one thing I started asking them, I was like, Hey, what does it cost to furnish an
3:30
entire Airbnb? And what I found was that you can do that
3:34
You know, you can do it on a budget for like three grand. But if you went to Ikea and outfitted a three bedroom home from start to finish, bedrooms
3:43
kitchen, living room, dining room, they were doing it on average between five and $7,000
3:49
And when you look at the cost of moving, which we are going to get into in our list here
3:54
you're going to find that moving, hiring a moving company is not inexpensive
3:58
So it's something to take in consideration. And like I said, if you can go to Ikea and replace everything you own, that's great
4:04
But there are those family heirlooms that maybe have been given to you that, Hey, I'm
4:08
not going to get rid of all my furniture. You know, it's something that you really, really love that, you know, that can't just
4:13
be replaced. Those are things you definitely want to put on the list of must move, but you have to
4:18
figure out should it stay? Should it go? That's a huge consideration that you want to take into account
4:23
Number two, moving supplies. Now this one is, I love the tips and tricks here
4:28
I used to work in the beer business and I share that with you because the one thing
4:33
about the beer business is, I don't know if you've ever seen a case of beer, but it comes in this cardboard box and these cardboard boxes are built to last
4:41
They're made to withstand wet, cold beer, and they can hold up to like 40 pounds each
4:45
And they're all a uniform size and they call them shells in case you needed to know where
4:50
can you find me? Cause you can call your local beer distributor. You can call your grocery stores
4:56
You can call your liquor or convenience stores and go ask them to save them for you
5:01
Because the thing I love about beer shells is again, you can put 30 to 45 pounds in there
5:06
which is more than reasonable for one person to carry. And then the other thing is they stack up about seven high in a dolly very safely and
5:13
they're easy to move. They're uniform in size. It's a great way to do it
5:18
The other way, and I'm going to share this with you guys, is you can, if you look at
5:23
Home Depot, when you walk in the door, you'll usually see the orange buckets
5:27
And then the other thing you see are these totes and you can get them at Target or any
5:32
home goods store, but Home Depot sells those 27 gallon totes, which is just about the right
5:38
size to not get crazy heavy. But they have lids, they're stackable, they're inexpensive, they're reusable, and they are
5:47
very convenient when it comes to moving. You can take some duct tape, put it on front of it, tell your movers exactly what room
5:53
it needs to go. Or you can easily remember what's inside of that tote
5:58
Totes are a great way to make a move. And guys, if you look in the link below, you'll find my list of moving supplies
6:06
It's a list to your local Home Depot. If you just click on it, it'll give you all of our moving supplies
6:11
It has our duct tape, our masking tape, and this stuff is really inexpensive
6:16
If you've got to wrap plates and mugs and all those types of things, if you go to the
6:21
U-Haul store and you buy their stuff, it's really expensive. Or if you hire the movers to do it, it can be really expensive
6:26
But if you just get the 12 inch masking tape that painters use to tape off windows, you
6:31
can wrap plates, mugs, all your breakables and that stuff, and it costs like $3 a roll
6:36
It's awesome. So check out that list below. All right. Number three, appliances
6:42
Should you keep them? Should you just replace them? The thing that I find common is when you buy a new home, when you move into a new home
6:50
most sellers do include the appliances. Not always. A lot of new construction homes don't come with appliances
6:57
They can be added into the packages, but they're not always included
7:01
So you've got to kind of prepare for that. And depending on the style that you like and the level of quality that you prefer
7:10
appliance packages can go anywhere from $3,000 on the low end to as much as $50,000 on the
7:16
top end. Now we're talking about Viking ranges and some very high end finishes
7:20
However, they're not inexpensive. So that is something definitely to take under consideration
7:25
But keep in mind when you're making that move, that the home that you're going to purchase
7:30
or you have purchased may include them. And take note, if they're not there, try to negotiate them into your purchase agreement
7:37
so you can have appliances when you come. Because again, if you don't have to move them, that's a lot less weight
7:43
It's a lot less time for the moving company. But if you do have to replace them, know, hey, I'm going to be in here for somewhere
7:50
on the average appliance package. You're going to be looking at $75,000 to $11,000 in a modest home
7:58
So I just want to share that with you guys. It's definitely something to take under consideration
8:02
Number four, do we hire a mover? Now this one's a big one
8:06
And what I got to say is, after moving 13 times, when I found out the actual cost of
8:13
making a move, I was ashamed of myself. Because I always was trying to save money because, you know, I don't necessarily love
8:21
to spend money on services I don't believe I need. But anyone who has moved, and if you've moved an entire household, you know very quickly
8:31
it was probably a poor decision. Unless you've got an entire football team who you can come and feed pizza and they'll
8:36
load up your stuff. Because moving is hard. It's difficult. It is physically taxing
8:42
It usually beats up areas in your home. So keep in mind of that. You know, people will usually bump into a piece of trim, tear it off a wall, a door
8:48
gets tore up, the walls get scuffed up and bumped. You got to keep that in mind
8:53
And when you hire professionals, they are just that. They come in to do that thing
8:57
What I found was when I first reached out to a moving company and asked what it would
9:02
cost to move, you know, the average American home, three bedroom, two bath, I was ashamed
9:07
of myself. It was roughly $1,300 to move anywhere locally within 50 miles for that price point
9:14
And while I realized that anything with a comma in it is a lot of money, guys, if you've
9:19
moved yourself, you also recognize the stress, anxiety, and it's just downright taxing
9:26
And it takes a long time to move. And like I said, there's a lot involved in it
9:29
So keep that in mind. Now, when it comes to moving across the country, you know, if you move from California to Florida
9:35
it wouldn't be anything to see prices of $10,000 to $13,000 to do that for that same home
9:42
That's a huge expense. And like we said earlier, if you can make that same move and buy all new furniture when
9:49
you were on the other side, you get the advantage of not having to deal with that stress, number one
9:54
And number two, all brand new things on the other side. And listen, I'm not saying money's disposable, but if you've got to choose between a moving
10:02
company that's going to charge you $10,000 to $13,000 or just refurnishing your entire
10:07
home, check into it because I think you'll find that it's actually an option and it might
10:11
be the better one for you. All right. Number five. So where do you stay if your home isn't ready
10:19
And this one's a big one. When you buy a home and you're moving across the country, sometimes when that new place
10:25
won't be ready, maybe you built a new home and it's not scheduled to be delivered when
10:30
you arrive, or maybe the seller hasn't found their place and they have to purchase a home
10:36
before they can relocate. You've agreed to that. And for whatever reason, the house isn't ready
10:41
Well, where do you stay? Well, the first thing that I want to say is we've already kind of already talked about
10:45
it earlier, but Airbnb is a great option. There are more Airbnbs that are starting to do a longer short-term rental, meaning
10:54
two or three weeks, month or two months or a quarter at a time
10:58
And the rates are fairly reasonable. You'd be surprised there are hotels or motels that are willing to do that
11:04
That's may not necessarily be a great option, but if you can go that route, call the hotel
11:09
check in with them and say, hey, do you have any options if I need to stay three weeks at a time
11:13
I think you'll be shocked to find that they do. They are prepared for those types of opportunities and they can do it
11:19
Now, if you're coming and you don't have a place bought yet, or you don't have a rental
11:23
yet, start looking at the local rental websites. Here in Tampa, Florida, there is a ton of opportunity with rentals
11:32
However, most of them are managed by individual owners and they are listed on things like
11:36
Craigslist and those types of things too. But if you reach out to us, we can definitely get you connected to people that can help
11:41
with the rentals as well. So don't stress too much. There are options
11:45
And I think that if you just spend a little bit of time Googling, you'll be able to locate
11:50
some great options for you in whatever situation you have. Number six, this one's a big one. Daycare
11:58
Now, not everybody is fortunate enough to work from home. I know in the last year and a half, things have changed dramatically
12:04
And there are a lot of people who have the blessing to be able to work from home, which
12:08
is awesome. But there are still a ton of people who have to go off to the office or have to go off
12:12
to a job site somewhere. And you've got to figure out what to do with those babies
12:16
So before you make that move, you want to reach out well in advance and lock in those
12:21
daycares, jump on Google, start looking at reviews, you know, look at the people who
12:26
have left reviews on them, reach out to them directly and ask their experiences through
12:30
the web. You can do those things. And I think they'll share some great insights about places they liked
12:35
And if you're seeing a bunch of bad reviews, ask those people where they went, Hey, where
12:39
did you place your child? We did not know that. And that's a key insight because you're moving to a new area
12:47
You might not know anybody. Who are you going to trust your kids with? This is a big decision
12:52
So before you decide to make that leap, I strongly encourage getting that daycare locked
12:56
in because a lot of these places are on a waiting list. And if you've got kids, you already know the routine there
13:01
It's not easy to get your kids into the places you may want to put them
13:05
So reach out in advance, start doing the network you need to do to get your kids into those
13:10
daycare centers, because I assure you that there is nothing more stressful than having
13:14
to relocate and not know where you're going to put your kids. Like I said, especially if you don't have an army of people behind you
13:19
You know, a lot of the times when people relocate, they don't necessarily have their family there
13:23
with them. They might be relocating for a job or just because that's the place they wanted to go
13:28
for a long time. But again, they don't have family and friends there to support them and their family needs
13:32
So that's something to take under strong consideration before you make that move
13:36
All right, you've made it all the way to number seven. And like I said at the beginning, this is going to be one of the most important numbers
13:43
on the entire list. Why? Well, if you're going to locate or if you're going to move across the country, you need
13:50
a dream team working on your behalf. And what I would love to say is my team here at the True Living Group are experts on helping
13:58
people relocate. And how can I say that? Well, I've relocated myself
14:02
Three years ago, I packed up my family, relocated an area where I've never lived before, didn't
14:07
have any support and have done exactly the things that I'm walking you guys through right now
14:12
That's number one. Number two, we service clients from all over the country moving into the Tampa area
14:17
It is not uncommon for me to take three to five phone calls from people looking to relocate
14:23
needing a real estate professional to help them make that move. And when you reach out to us, we're going to set you up on a home search
14:29
We're going to ask about your needs. What are you trying to accomplish? We are going to be your boots on the ground
14:35
We are able to do showings for you, walk you through homes all through this guy right
14:40
here, FaceTime, really dial you in so you don't have to hop on a plane every single
14:45
time you need to see a house. Because in the market that we're currently in, that's not really an option for everybody
14:51
And if the market shifts, it's still not convenient. So with the advent of technology, we're able to really help support our clients no matter
14:58
where you are in the country. So however you feel comfortable making a connection, please feel free to reach out
15:05
Call, text, email, instant message me. We don't care whatever it is
15:09
We've got your back. We cannot wait to help you make that move, relocate to the Tampa area and live that Tampa lifestyle
15:16
As I said before, Juan Ancala here with The True Living Group, and I look forward to seeing
15:20
you on that next one
