Welcome to another episode of Sailing Ruby Rose. There is so much noise because there is so much
0:04
going on in this factory. This is hole one, Ruby Rose two over there, three, four, five, six
0:09
seven, eight. Eight holes in production. Today we're looking at electrics, battery installations
0:15
the electricians are speeding through, windows are going in, the front is on the boat
0:20
the bowsprit is in, a beautiful piece of kit, lots to show you. Enjoy this one, it's going to be great
0:30
So let's jump on board hole number one and see exactly what we've seen since we jumped on last
0:40
week. Yeah, a real hive of activity. There's a lot of electrical work going on here. This is a
0:47
battery box, so the battery box is going in there. So what else have I got to show you today? Now
0:52
the side windows, these guys have been prepping this for ages. So as you can see, the guys
0:58
are using a little multi-tool to make sure that it's perfectly honed on, all fared down
1:05
to bond the side windows in. And of course the side windows in that toughened, tinted glass
1:14
all there. Now that they've put the cross beam back in, you can see that anchor area
1:20
everything put in here, the size of this is huge, and then underneath there we have the carbon fiber
1:28
bowsprit. That is beautiful to see. Carbon fiber, extendable bowsprit. So if you are going to be working the foredeck, literally I can sit here, so I'd say that's about
1:42
a meter long. The fact that you can sit here is actually a real bonus. And actually, you know
1:49
what? There's a backrest here, literally I'm on a floating platform, it's wicked. Yeah, loving this
1:57
And honestly, this foredeck is huge! Yeah, nice. Let's start firstly, let's walk down this side deck. This is obviously the
2:07
starboard side deck. Inside, so much to see going on. As we head down into the cockpit
2:13
there are workers everywhere. We are really ramping up into a different stage of production here
2:20
Now, as we head into the saloon, there are a lot we can see. Now, this is obviously where
2:24
the settees are going to go. Now, the entire master vault system is in place, minus the
2:29
batteries, but there are huge wiring looms, isolator switches for the batteries, and again
2:35
everything. I actually have an absolute bent for the looms and how neat everything is here
2:41
Now, if we remove this cardboard box, what we can see is that this metal box has the busbars
2:46
in place. So again, the electrical system on this boat is absolutely huge. 24 volts
2:51
and it's going to have to be stepped down to 12 in parts, but again, busbars for fuses
2:56
so that everything is easily accessible. And this is really, because of Ruby Rose, I know that
3:02
actually being able to check the fuses, check the busbars is something that you need to do sometimes
3:06
very, very quickly. We've had issues before with things like the windlass fuse dropping out
3:11
and things tripping. So again, knowing where all these panels are, where everything is clearly
3:16
labeled for future maintenance and obviously for problem solving with electrical issues. And
3:22
again, for those of you who may have watched our episodes in the BVIs, there were some issues with
3:27
just a stray earth with a tripped switch. And again, this is going to be super useful for us
3:32
to know exactly where everything is. Everything will be labeled and easily resolvable using just
3:38
flow charts. So inverter charger for us, again, master vault, because we are going to have some
3:43
pretty complex systems on the boat. With the inverter, we are going to be running on while
3:49
we're at anchor, things like washing machines, hair dryers, and we're looking up to like three kilowatts here, three and a half kilowatts. So again, lots and lots of power requirement
3:58
Moving to this wiring loom, this runs all behind the chart table. So again, underneath the chart
4:04
table, you can see where all the chargers are, chargers for the batteries, easily visible and
4:08
something that we, again, from a maintenance point of view, find very, very useful. Now
4:13
if we step down into the port or the master hall, you can see where everything is going on here
4:17
There is a lot of cabinetry that has now gone into place. Again, talking to Miriam last week
4:24
they are definitely working with mixed materials. So we've got areas which are going to be covered
4:29
in fabric. We've got areas which are wood-faced, and then we've got that twin gel coat in light
4:34
grey and white. So again, it should be absolutely like really a beautiful area
4:38
Now, the templating, as you can see, looking at the headlining, anything that you see in green
4:43
from past videos is where they are still templating, and they template in this green MDF to
4:49
make sure that, as per the discussion on the motorbike, and yes, I do understand that vlogging
4:54
on a motorbike is dangerous, but if you can see where this green headlining is, this is where the
5:00
CAD design hasn't been finalised. And so what they are doing is they're taking the CAD design
5:05
and turning it into actually a template. So again, a mixture of colours. These panels
5:12
will be fabric covered. Then we look up to these large windows, the white gel coat. So we've got
5:17
I think in our case, it's going to be a grey, a slightly grey fabric, white fibre glass
5:23
grey fibre glass, and then this oiled ash. Honestly, I think the final look is going to
5:28
be absolutely amazing. And obviously, then we go into this whole drama about bedding and soft
5:34
furnishings, and obviously this is a completely different chapter, which is probably more based
5:38
in Sex and the City than actually boat building. So oiled wood at the back facings. I think this
5:45
is ash, and then this kind of like fairly neo-retro cabinetry with the shapes are all cut
5:52
out for the handle. So again, an interesting design. As it all ties together, I am absolutely
5:57
sure that this, from a visual point of view, is going to be super, super beautiful. Also
6:03
just something to notice is that it's aluminium. Aluminium for our European neighbours. Track has
6:07
been put in place, and this allows for the privacy door to be, for the master cabin to be
6:11
sort of like placed. But there's also additional storage here for small pantry items. So as this
6:17
comes across, I'm not sure this design has been finalised, but again, interesting to see as this
6:21
comes into play. Stepping down into the starboard hull, what do we have here? Well, again, this lady
6:28
carpenter, honestly, she's amazing, but she is finishing off the carpentry in the small cabin
6:34
And as per last week, it's not exactly a small cabin. It is bigger than the master cabin on Ruby
6:39
Rose. But again, all the fiddles in place, the templating is now in place for the surrounds for
6:44
the windows. And this is really tying together. So really, it's not going to be long now before
6:50
this is going to be signed off on, and we'll be working towards actually getting mattresses and
6:55
obviously finishing this off. One thing to note, there is a guy here working on the steering
7:00
linkage. Now, this is super important. The steering linkage is put in to tie the two wheels together
7:05
Everything all coming together. So between technicians and the like, we have everything in
7:10
place. So follow me, walk with me, walk with me. I want to just show you a couple of other little
7:14
things I picked up on while during my inspection today. Inspection? It's not inspection, it's just
7:19
me fanning around with the camera, clearly. So what do we have? The helm seats. Actually, we talked
7:24
about this before about the helm seat design and how it wasn't finalized. Now we actually have a
7:28
helm seat for trying. So we've got this box, which is obviously that's backwards of the helm
7:35
seats. Obviously, everything's been put up there. The batteries have now been installed. This guy
7:40
this electrician is working so fast. European, Australian electricians, be aware. These guys
7:46
work super fast. This electrician, yep, working super hard. All installed there. Lovely. Guys
7:53
they're working pretty hard. That extra window's in. Let me just have a little look at that. So
7:58
they are bonding that window in. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful piece of glass. Quick move around the factory. Electrician's just honestly going absolutely
8:11
gangbusters here. Gangbusters. Ruby Rose 2. Want to take a swing around this, everyone
8:18
Want to take a swing around it? I know that you're all asking, well, how far behind
8:22
hole one is hole two? Ruby Rose 2. So what have we got here? Stainless steel for midway, all in place
8:31
Let me have a look at this space. What else do we have? Obviously, this stern section
8:37
where are we going to put the life raft? All in there. So we've got a completed hull
8:41
We have got completed helm stations. Obviously, it looks super, super dark in here because they
8:47
haven't cut the windows through. So we've got a whole area that needs to be opened up. But
8:52
because they've done so much work on one, two should be straightforward. Target arch in, carbon fibre coach roof in. All good. Three over there, four there
9:04
And then let me just take a quick walk through because I know some of you are actually really interested in batteries. That is five. OK, so hang on a second, let's just do some counting
9:12
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. They have seven boats on board and they're just
9:22
releasing another one and they're infusing another. So there we are. So did you enjoy that
9:26
This boat really is coming on. She will be in the water before too long. Two's coming on
9:32
but we're looking forward to test sailing hull one in the new year, I should imagine
9:37
If you enjoyed that, give us a like, give us a thumbs up, leave a comment. If you want to see
9:40
life in Vietnam, let me know what you want to see. I will be back next week. You enjoy yourselves
9:46
Stay safe, everybody. Bye bye
