In a major move under the clean note policy, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has demonetized Rs 2,000 notes. According to the central bank, the total value of the 2,000 notes available in the market is around Rs 3.62 lakh crore. The withdrawal process of these notes has started from Tuesday, May 23, 2023 and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das in a press conference expressed hope that most of these notes will be returned by September 30.
