Fire Cider
Ingredients:
1/2 cup grated fresh horseradish root
1/2 cup grated fresh ginger root
1 medium onion, chopped
10 cloves garlic, minced
2 jalapeño peppers, chopped
Zest and juice of 1 lemon
2 tablespoons turmeric powder (or 1/4 cup fresh turmeric root, grated)
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 cup raw honey
1 quart (4 cups) raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar
Instructions:
Prepare Ingredients: Place the horseradish, ginger, onion, garlic, jalapeños, lemon zest and juice, turmeric, and cayenne pepper in a large jar.
Add Vinegar: Pour the apple cider vinegar over the ingredients, ensuring they are completely submerged. Use a piece of parchment paper under the lid to prevent the vinegar from touching the metal, or use a plastic lid.
Infuse: Seal the jar tightly and shake well. Store in a dark, cool place for 3-4 weeks, shaking the jar daily to help the infusion process.
Strain: After 3-4 weeks, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean jar. Discard the solids.
Add Honey: Stir in the raw honey until well combined. Taste and add more honey if desired.
Store: Store the finished fire cider in the refrigerator and use within a year12.
