0:08
i've been doing it 12 years
0:09
hi guys ryan terry here ifbb pro in the
0:12
men's physique division
0:13
and i'm here to talk to you a little bit
0:15
about the olympia placings and what i've
0:23
so currently i have placed second in the
0:26
or we'll go backwards we'll go sixth
0:30
and second place my last placing was
0:33
as you all know i'm not too pleased
0:35
about but that was down on me
0:37
and that's what i'm gonna talk to you
0:38
about now so the olympia is classed as
0:40
the biggest show in the world
0:41
and that's because it's the best of the
0:45
competed in their regionals their
0:46
countries and they're all
0:49
congregating at the end of the year in
0:51
which what is the biggest show in the
0:52
world and it's basically the test of
0:55
is going to be the best out of the best
0:57
so um it's been going 50 odd years
0:59
you've got the likes of arnold
1:01
has graced that stage and yeah there's
1:05
what what is close to that is he in shot
1:11
make step back so typically when i'm
1:13
prepping for the olympia
1:14
um it's a 16 week prep but four weeks
1:17
before that i will really ramp my
1:19
calories up which i'll try and get to
1:21
four and a half five thousand calories
1:23
so that my body gets used to dieting on
1:26
and when i start to basically drop the
1:30
my body's used to higher calories so i
1:32
have more to play with as i get closer
1:35
so for those who don't know in order to
1:37
compete on the olympia stage you have to
1:40
of qualifications rounds so as an
1:43
amateur you need to win
1:44
a regional show then you'll go to
1:46
nationals which then you'll go to
1:48
and then you'll get your pro card but
1:50
you have to win those shows or overall
1:52
once you've got your pro card you're
1:54
then into the pro circuit which
1:55
is all over the world is pro shows and
1:59
to the olympia you have to win a pro
2:02
on average you've got between 40 and 50
2:04
men's physique competitors in each show
2:07
so the the standard is phenomenal
2:11
it's just getting better and better and
2:13
then the best of the best so you've
2:15
50 to 60 um pro shows around the world
2:19
those top winners will then qualify for
2:22
the olympia and that's how you get to
2:24
it's quite um a grueling task to get
2:27
but once you've for me once you've
2:30
stepped on the limit stage and you wear
2:32
that's enough drive for the next year to
2:35
go and get that jack again i've got
2:37
i've been very fortunate to get six
2:38
olympia jackets and they're all framed
2:41
in my office um and yeah biggest
2:44
you know i nearly said that
2:48
yeah you said you said ambassador
2:51
sorry i've said that way too many times
2:53
so stepping on the mr olympia stage is
2:56
the best feeling in the world and any
2:58
competitor that is the ultimate goal is
3:00
to step on that stage and
3:02
i didn't realize how much i don't know
3:05
how to explain it you just
3:07
feel so honored and like you you walk
3:09
out and there's thousands of people
3:11
the lights are going crazy and you just
3:13
know all your hard work
3:15
has got you to this um and it's your
3:18
i'm naturally a very nervous person um
3:21
even when i work when i compete and the
3:24
moment i step on stage like it's a bit
3:25
of an alter ego comes out and
3:28
my confidence everything i've lacked in
3:30
previous years when i stepped on stage
3:32
that all gets forgotten
3:33
and i'm there to do a job and that's
3:36
what i've always done and
3:37
like i say i've been on the olympic
3:40
so a lot of people have been asking on
3:41
my social media will i be competing at
3:45
what what do i need to change in order
3:49
and for me i feel like i need to find
3:53
for stepping on the olympia stage and
3:55
i've never taken it for granted
3:57
because i still to this day feel very
3:59
honored to have been step stepping on
4:01
for so long i just i don't know i
4:04
probably lost a little bit confidence in
4:06
i got sidetracked with with life
4:09
had my son now and i got married in the
4:11
last couple of years so
4:12
things bodybuilding's took a back seat
4:16
if anybody who competes knows it's a
4:18
very selfish sport and to be
4:20
the best in that sport you have to be
4:24
eat your meals when you do you have to
4:25
sleep 8 to 10 hours a day
4:28
and nothing else comes before that so if
4:31
i'm to be competitive or if i'm to step
4:33
back on the olympic stage i need to find
4:35
that balance of family life
4:37
as well as my bodybuilding life he's got
4:40
he's got right idea taking his trainers
4:44
so i started my working career as a
4:48
and when i was 16 left school got into
4:51
i've trained since i was 14 and if i'm
4:54
brutally honest i started training
4:55
because of self-confidence issues
4:57
um i always thought i was overweight as
4:59
a kid and i didn't have the confidence i
5:02
getting in the gym transforming my body
5:06
building confidence so that just went
5:09
with plumbing and it was a hobby of mine
5:12
when i was 20 years old um i was very
5:15
fortunate to want to win
5:17
a show which was mr june calendar thing
5:20
and i then went on to win mr great
5:21
britain and mr international which
5:23
was more in like the beauty pageant male
5:27
uh realm and that whisked me off
5:30
to indonesia and then i traveled the
5:32
world for a year representing
5:34
the the federation so that kind of took
5:36
me away from plumbing
5:38
and to full-time modelling i was doing
5:41
and a lot of tv work and adverts and
5:44
my passion was always bodybuilding so in
5:47
the background i was still training i
5:48
was as i was traveling around the world
5:49
but it got to a point where i was at a
5:53
decide to carry on doing tv commercial
5:55
work or do i go down the sports route
5:57
and put more size on and
5:59
that was when i decided to go into men's
6:01
physique right that's it guys
6:03
