Does T-Mobile Home Internet still offer unlimited data
0:03
At first glance, the answer may seem obvious, but about a week after publishing my updated
0:09
review of the service, T-Mobile added some fine print to its website
0:13
And you'll understand why some people are confused. Here it is. During congestion, home internet customers may notice speeds lower than other customers
0:23
and further reduction if using more than 1.2 terabytes a month due to data prioritization
0:28
Now the first part of that fine print, it's not new and it's actually one of the drawbacks
0:32
of T-Mobile Home Internet that I've mentioned in my reviews. Your data can be slowed down pretty much any time that T-Mobile's network gets congested
0:41
And the reason is, when the network gets busy, T-Mobile gives priority to its post-paid wireless
0:46
customers, not its home internet customers. But the second part of the fine print, it is new
0:52
Added in January 2024, this will affect heavy data users. Not only will they be slowed down when the network is busy, but if they use more than
1:00
1.2 terabytes of data per month, T-Mobile now says they may be slowed down even more
1:07
But let's be clear about one thing. This is not a data cap. If you go over 1.2 terabytes, your data won't stop and you won't be charged extra
1:16
So to answer the questions that I've been getting, you technically still get unlimited
1:20
data with T-Mobile Home Internet. Now most households won't use anywhere near 1.2 terabytes of data in a month, so this
1:27
will not affect the majority of customers. But T-Mobile's recent changes are very cable-like and I'm really not happy about them
1:35
This additional fine print comes as the service has increased its starting price and also
1:40
watered down its price lock. At the time I'm recording this video, T-Mobile continues to use the $50 a month price in
1:47
all of its marketing. But after the price increase, you must have a T-Mobile voiceline and auto-pay to get the
1:53
internet plan for $50 a month. Otherwise, without a voiceline, Home Internet is now $60 a month
2:00
Combined, I think the pricing and data changes make it less likely for people with multiple
2:06
internet options to actually give this service a try. And also less likely for people who don't have a T-Mobile voiceline
2:13
But if there aren't a whole lot of internet options where you live and you've got T-Mobile
2:17
for wireless service, you may want to consider a 15-day test drive
2:21
I'll have a link below, that way you can check eligibility. At the time I'm posting this update, you can get $200 back as a new customer
2:30
By the way, I used T-Mobile Home Internet while creating this video and also I'm going
2:34
to use it to upload it to YouTube. So scroll down to the comments and I'll post an update on how long that process actually took
2:42
Plus, I've got a lot more about the service's reliability and performance
2:46
That's in my updated review based on a year and a half of testing
2:51
Thank you for watching today and I hope to see you back here soon
