When you drop serious cash on your mobile network every month, you expect at least one thing
0:05
Your phone should actually work. And I don't mean work kind of, I mean actually work. Like when
0:11
you're trying to call an Uber out in the sticks, scan a QR code menu from a seller restaurant
0:16
or sending high-res photos from a packed stadium. So the question is, which wireless carrier
0:22
actually deserves your money in 2026? Well, to get to the bottom of this PCMag-yzed
0:29
real-world speed test, coverage, pricing, and customer satisfaction data. Here are the best
0:36
mobile networks of 2026. Now, before you start yelling at me in the comments because your Verizon
0:42
plan works perfectly fine, but your cousin's T-Mobile connection doesn't, you should know that
0:47
our 2026 rankings use over 2 million tests collected between January 1st and June 30th
0:55
The data comes from CoverageMap.com and Best Phone Plans. Those tests measure things like download speed, upload speed, latency, and 5G coverage
1:05
And then we combine that with PCMag's Reader's Choice Survey. This helps inform our PCMag Mobile Network Index score, which consists of 40% speed, 20% coverage, 20% price, and 20% customer satisfaction
1:20
So yes, speed matters the most, but it isn't everything. because what good is a blazing fast network if it costs you one vital organ a month right So let start with the big three T AT and Verizon This year there a pretty clear winner T It beat both AT and Verizon on download and upload speeds had lower
1:44
latency, and came out on top for 5G coverage, pricing, and customer satisfaction. That all adds
1:52
up to a PCMagMobile network index score of 6.84. For comparison, AT&T scored 4.81 and Verizon
2:01
scored 4.75. Here's where things get interesting. We ranked networks across 49 states. Sorry
2:09
Alaska, but you didn't have enough test data. And T-Mobile came out on top in 45 of those 49 states
2:16
The exceptions were Arkansas and Oregon, where AT&T took the top spot
2:22
And Vermont and Mississippi, where Verizon won. There were also some interesting speed-specific exceptions
2:29
AT&T was actually the fastest network in Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Oregon. So T-Mobile isn't the fastest everywhere
2:38
This is why we don't look at just one number. Your location matters a lot
2:44
Maybe you're thinking, but Kim, I don't live in rural America. I live in a city
2:50
See, that's why we tested 19 major metropolitan areas too. And once again, T-Mobile took the top spot in 17 of the 19 regions
3:00
The two exceptions are Detroit and the San Francisco Bay Area where Verizon won based on its top speeds And Chicago was particularly interesting T mobile network index score there was 8 the highest score among the major carriers in the cities we
3:18
tested. Boston and Tampa also broke the 8.0 mark for T-Mobile. So if you're living in a major city
3:26
T-Mobile's numbers are looking pretty good. You don't necessarily have to pay T-Mobile prices to
3:32
get T-Mobile's network. That's because of MVNOs, or Mobile Virtual Network Operators. Think
3:39
Mint Mobile, Google Fi, and Metro by T-Mobile. These companies use another carrier's network
3:45
rather than building a giant network of towers themselves, and some of them can be significantly
3:51
cheaper. In fact, when we included MVNOs in the national ranking, T-Mobile itself fell all the way
3:58
to fifth place, and the top four were all MVNOs using the T-Mobile network. That's because speed
4:04
makes up 40% of our overall score, and these carriers benefited from T-Mobile's network while
4:10
offering lower prices. The standout here was Mint Mobile. Mint scored 7.70 nationally. That's higher
4:19
than T-Mobile's 6.84. Google Fi came in at 7.56 and Mint was also the top MBNO in 34 states and 11
4:30
metro areas. So if you're someone who looks at your phone bill every month and thinks, why the hell am
4:36
I paying this much This is where you should start looking And of course we looked at pricing For multi plans Cricut Wireless AT prepaid brand had the lowest average price among the carriers we examined For a single unlimited data line
4:53
Visible came out to an average of $35 per month. Not bad. And way different from the four-figure
5:01
annual phone bills some families are used to. Visible actually won best mobile network in 11
5:08
states, helped in part by its low pricing. So what should you actually take away from all of this
5:15
First, T-Mobile had the strongest overall showing in our 2026 testing. It led nationally
5:22
145 states, and topped 17 of the 19 major cities we tested. But again, that doesn't mean T-Mobile
5:29
is automatically the best carrier for you. Your location, your budget, how many lines you have
5:35
and what you care about most can completely change the equation. Maybe you want the fastest possible connection
5:43
Maybe you just want the cheapest unlimited plan. Maybe you're paying for five people and you want to stop bleeding money every month
5:49
Or maybe you live in one of those states where AT&T or Verizon came out on top
